I updated my list. Alexander surprised me (hell, he surprised everyone) and I like Jon more as a fan after yesterday's fight, but I don't think someone with as many exploitable flaws in his striking defense should be the #1 P4P. He will get there someday.

Can,t believe people are moving Jon Jones out of the #1 spot because he had a tough fight. Instead of criticizing Jon Jones striking defense, how about giving credit to Gutafsson's kick boxing abilities. Alex Gustafsson was the better kick boxer coming into this fight and thats why the mma media expected Jones to end this fight on the ground because thats where they thought he had an advantage.

Lets not forget that Anderson Silva was still considered the number 1 P4P fighter after the Chael Sonnen fight, even after Chael exposed his overrated wrestling defense

I agree. He didn´t lose, and the fact that he had a tough fight does not change his past performances.

Anderson had a tough fight, but he definitively won that fight. Jones arguably lost to Gustafsson. I'm sure people aren't going to like my list, but I've thought Jones has been P4P overrated for a long time. It was hard to argue against Silva's sustained success at MW, but I think everyone agreed that, though he may be one of if not the most naturally gifted fighters, he was not as skilled in all aspects of MMA as GSP.

That is true, Jon Jones did arguably lose to Gustafsson.

I mean, it's an argument that complete idiots would make but it is an argument nonetheless.

Oh Anik. Reminiscent of kindergarden playgrounds as always. And yet, despite your pedantry, most of the time you are on point with your comments. Zarog, i can see your case but how the **** do you rank Demetrious Johnson so high? He fought to a draw (which he should have lost in my opinion) against Ian McCall, and he barely sc****d byJoseph Benavidez.  He is the champion, and he does deserve to be, but he is not a dominant champion.

@ben Eh. He probably lost to McCall in the first fight, but ever since then he's looked great, and I do not think he "barely sc****d by" against Joe, thought DJ won it rather handily. In addition, I see Benavidez as top 10 based on his FLW & BW combined accomplishments, so beating a guy in the top 10 P4P is automatically helping his case. P4P is incredibly subjective, so I'll be the first to admit that every spot is up for debate, but the general area (within 5 slots when talking top 20, within 10 slots in top 21-50, and within 15 for anything 51 and over) they fit into is probably not.

With your inclusion of Joseph in the top ten (something i had failed to notice) your ranking makes more sense.
Are you not impressed with Jon Jones´ title defenses and the high level of opponents he has had? I think it´s arguably the biggest accomplishment ever in mma.

I'm sticking to my original hypothesis; Jones has been fighting middleweights, or people he has a major physical advantage over. He is still one of the best P4P, but to me, he fought Gustaffsson, a fighter near his physical attributes, and he didn't look great. You can argue wether it was Gustaffsson, blah blah blah, point is Gustaffsson was submitted by Davis not long ago, and did not look like a killer against a washy Shogun.  GSP has stood the test of time, and has beaten everyone at the top of the division making it look easy.

While I like Weidman, I need to see the second fight in order to really say that Weidman is superior to A.S

@ben I find Jones' achievements to be special, but like Anderson, he has totally dominated a weak division. The reason I am so impressed with GSP and Jose Aldo is because of their length of reign atop the division + the relative depth of the division. FLW is weak as well, but DJ had accomplishments at BW before he ever moved down to FLW. Jones doesn't have the multi-division angle to boost his P4P rep. I think Jones can be argued anywhere in the top 5, but he suffers the same problem Benson did in that, yes, he's winning (Jones is obviously doing it more impressively), but the fact that he's so much bigger than the vast majority of his opponents detracts from his P4P status. People that ranked Jones at #1 before the Gustafsson fight should probably keep him at #1, but for those of us that had him at #3-#5, he did nothing on Saturday to support the idea that he deserves to be ranked higher than he previously was. I don't think Jones' performance warrants a down grade in his position in the P4P rankings, but I did not have him as highly ranked as other people did in the first place. I find P4P to be so subjective, that the criteria in which one bases their ranking off of to be the determinant of rankings rather than any set in stone reality; in addition, most of the time the criteria to build the ranking are heavily biased towards fighters an individual likes. Aldo's my 2nd favorite fighter (there's no other fighter on my list that's in my top 10 favorites), so I'm sure that the way I build my ranking is not totally unbiased.

After his last fights, I would understand anyone ranking Demetrious very high P4P wise. His explosiveness is unheard of, and coupled with his impeccable timing and great wrestling it can basically control where the fight goes. If Demetrious wants to stand, he stands. If he doesn't, he takes you down. This ability to control where the fight goes at will is basically exclusive to him and GSP.

The explosiveness also gets him out of trouble really fast.
