Takanori Gomi was arguably the #1 LW in the world when Diaz tapped him out.  Regardless of a drug test that overturned it, he made the guy tap.  I don't understand why people gloss over this by saying it wasn't at WW it was a LW fight, you're right it was.  And I say it was with the #1 guy in that class, which should carry some weight.

So Diaz beat Gomi 30 years ago, what does that prove? He also lost to several fighters who weren't no.1 in the world.

A lot of people are obviously developing a dislike (or hatred) for GSP.  While that's frustrating to me as a GSP fan, I understand it.

But even if you hate GSP, to not have him ranked as the #1 welterweight means you're letting your bias against him dictate your rankings.  He's the champion and he's convincingly beat top fighter after top fighter after top fighter.

Diaz has beat several good fighters and the people who claim he hasn't faced any top-10 fighters need to give it a rest already. Diaz is a top-5 welterweight now.  But regardless of he's your favorite or not, there's no legitimate way to say that he's beat more, tougher opposition than GSP.

As for the "he's been inactive" excuse, that's a double-standard. GSP had a major, but common injury and he's on a quicker-than-expected timeframe to return. Fighters miss this amount of time constantly and you don't change their place in the rankings.

This is Anik's excuse, and yet Anik has Shane Carwin, who lost a full year due to neck surgery, and then came back and got his ass kicked and is now on a 2-fight skid, as his #4 ranked heavyweight.

Rank Diaz at #2 or #3. You can make the argument. But if you say he's #1 you're really just saying he's your personal favorite and that your rankings shouldn't be taken seriously.

I am a huge Diaz fan and I agree with you @Gregory, as I said before in this thread I will be keeping GSP at #1 regardless of the injury until he returns and fights again.

I find it interesting that while @jersey may have Nick Diaz as the #1 WW, he still has GSP as the #3 pound for pound fighter behind only Silva and Jones.

Same with @rorschach.

Lol.. GSP has been the best WW for over 5 years.. he has been fighting in the UFC and beating the beat consistantly making them look stupid. Diaz knocks a couple bums out, beats BJ Penn and now is the #1 WW. Get real.

These are current rankings...not all-time Welterweight rankings. So all the "top ten guys 4 years ago" or "Diaz hasn't beat the best guys"...

RIGHT NOW Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit are fighting for the interim UFC Championship in the WW division. GSP is out AT LEAST till November. So right now I have Diaz/Condit at #1 and #2.

There's my reasoning...

Right now Nick Diaz and Carlos Conditions are fighting for a worthless piece of leather and gold. Even Chael got a hold of a belt it's being used the same way Chael does as a marketing tool. GSP is hoping to fight by summer and is the only WW championat least until he retires or loses. Everyone of GSPs opponents have been ranked in the top 10 since he won that title. This isn't rocket science current or not GSP is #1 and by a wide margin.

GSP doesn't want to "Rush" his comeback.  There is no point in coming back early just to prove a point.  He needs to think this through and make sure that when he comes back he 100%, because I don't want any excuses from him when he does.

@Lopati it doesn't matter, even if he comes back at 100% and Diaz beats him people will say "well he wouldn't have beat him before the knee injury" There is always an excuse somewhere lol

Every WW thread is gonna end up about Georges/Diaz until that fight happens...Diaz needs to win Saturday then duck the rest of the wrestlers at 170 and sit out til St. Pierre is cleared to fight

Also people are talking about the Diaz bandwagon? All I know is the original Team Diaz (Me, Poir, Jersey, wolf, etc.) were all fans before he came to UFC and we've backed him the entire way.

When most of GSP's fans love him because he's the Champ and certain people don't like Unique/Awesome fighters that are too "gangster" or "thug"...in other words - REAL. "YAY look at GSP he has a a cool headband and is the best, oooh and he's classy"

**** all you ************s.

...see I should've just backed out.

Am I A Georges guy? If you go look at my favorite fighter's you'll see Nick is a head of Georges, but until Nick proves he can beat a wrestler I'm not picking him against one

@Torch I dropped GSP from #1 to #3 because of inactivity, and moved Diaz who I had at #2 and Condit who I had at #3, up a spot (seeing how they're fighting for the Interim WW title. It's that simple, if GSP was not injured and still able to defend the title, then (even though I can't stand him) he would still be my #1.
