I absolutely love Cerrone.. but he hasn't faced the competition yet.

I'm high on Jim Miller right now. I think he has probably the best skill set in the LW division next to Gilbert Melendez.

laugh all yall want, but i have no problems defending guillard as my pick for top lightweight...sure he doesn't have the belt, yet, but he will...and soon...dude is the new liddell, uber scary on the feet, with a wrestling pedigree to stay standing, AND the speed of a 135er...i would NOT want to fight this guy

@jersey i understand the enthusiasm for melvin but i dont see anyway you can justify putting him ahead of frankie who is the champ.....makes no sense really

I like my LW rankings, but once Edgar/Maynard III happens these rankings are going to change drastically.

@jaffa and @thiago ...i understand the premature argument...and i really cant disagree with yall...however, i compare this to earlier this year in lhw...i had jon jones number one lhw before he fought shogun! i saw jones as an obvious potential champ...same as guillard...i rank based on skill, based on the "what if" scenarios...i dont see anyone beating this new melvin, i just dont...but i think gil would be closest, followed by the champ edgar...dark horse here is eddie alvarez...he could be a force in ufc, and his bellator competition isnt near his level..love it or hate it, wait till this time next year..i believe guillard will b champ

alright guys as for melvin guillard since joining jackson hes been on a tear if he has improved his sub defence with jackson then he will have the belt soon enough but i think if pettis can get his takedown defenec a bit better he will be the next reigning champ

All of you who have G-Sot in your top 10 there is no excuse for that at this point. Also it's laughable to have Eddie Alvarez #2 TS. Frankie Edgar beat the best LW of all time twice. Almost no excuse not to have Edgar as #1.

agree about g sotz...i was rootin for him, bought in to his style, but his standup just isnt where it needs to be and neither are his takedowns. also, as much as i dislike maynard (his style is yawn inducing), he's better than edgar and will win the belt...i think frankie edgars style was perfect for bj penn, but in no way do i consider edgar a better lightweight than penn in the end...imo

What does Edgar have to do to be better than Penn beside beat him twice.

build a career of dominance...not just a brief splash of greatness...if edgar becomes widely considered as unstoppable, he'll b on penn's level....not just squeak by challengers (ala maynard), but dominate them...he's a great fighter, as shown by the belt he wears, but to b considered on par with penn he needs 5 or 6 years of this.

Edgar has also beat Sean Sherk, Tyson Griffin, Spencer Fisher, Hermes France, Marck Boceck, Jim Miller, and Deividas Taurosevicius. It's not like Edgar just came out of nowhere he was building a list of good opponents. Yes in the whole history of MMA Penn has a better legacy but Edgar is on his way to building a pretty good one himself. If Edgar beats Maynard like he really did in their last fight, he will be hard to beat.

And yet people hold the loss to Maynard over Edgar's head that happened 3 years ago.  Lets bring up Guillard's loss to Clementi or Guida's to Din Thomas then
