How can Ben Henderson be ranked so much higher than Pettis, when he just lost to Pettis two fights ago?  Definitely not "the correct rankings."

How can Clay Guida be ranked behind Pettis when he just beat him?

Benson lost a razor close decision tp pettis and then beat the number 3 ranked guy

you dominate the number 3 guy that hard then you are the number 3

not to mention Benson has won two fights after the lose to Pettis where as  Pettis has only fought once and it was a loss to Guida

Henderson beat Bocek and Jim Miller, neither of which should be #3 at any point.

@lawman Gil shouldn't be top 10 at any point

unless he comes to and beats people in the UFC or the Alveraz fight happens

His last two fights were victories over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Shinya Aoki.  He also defeated Josh Thomson.  Gilbert Melendez is widely accepted as one of the best lightweights out there right now.  While I agree that he needs to get in there with some top notch opposition, and soon, he is still legit.  He's also the Strikeforce LW Champ.

he is about as legit as Nick Diaz or Jake Shields

People had Shields ranked that high to and look what happened to him he came to the UFC and lost to Kmapmann (ya i know he won but that decision was horrible) then he looses no he gets dominated by GSP and then he gets knocked out of Jake Ellenberger

Nick diaz has never beat anyone even close to top ten not once! and all you people on the hype train have him ranked #2 the guy almost got knocked out by Cyborg, almost got knocked out by Daley a few times and then got a complete ******** stoppage and also barely beat K.J Noons who won a fight at LW to get his WW title shot, DA ****??

and yes Gil has beat Aoki and Kawakiri yes and Tompson all good wins but none that should make him ranked at #3 or 4, 5, 6, 7. And lets face the facts here if Aoki or Kawajiri were that good then they would be in the UFC but Aoki is a one diaminsional grappler (though he is a fantastic grappler) who hasnt beat really anyone worth him being top 5 either i mean the guys last fight was against Berrbohm (who is a joke) and now he is facing Razor Rob who i didnt even know was still fighting and Kawakiri hasn't really beat anyone all that good either

If and When he goes to the UFC and IF and WHEN he beats someone like Cerrone, Benson Henderson, Gray Maynard, Edgar, Anthony Pettis, Glay Guida, Melvin Gulliard, Dennis Siver, Jim Miller then i will have him top ten

Or if Strikeforce makes some kind of co promtioanl deal with Bellator and Gil faces  and beats Eddie Alveraz then he will be top ten

there is no case to be made as to why he should be anywhere on the top ten list unless he is #9 or #10

@justnbomar, know who you're talking to first.  I am the last person to say that Nick Diaz is some amazing fighter.

Second, Melendez is a champion.  I always rank champions higher than most of the other guys.  Now, I do have Maynard ranked above Gil, and that's an oddity for me, because Maynard isn't a champion.  However, being that Maynard and Edgar fought to a draw, and Maynard won the meeting between those two previously, I felt it was difficult to not have him ranked #2, directly under the current champ, Edgar.  Gil comes next because he currently holds the Strikeforce belt.

Eddie Alvarez and Gilbert Melendez could trade spots back and forth on my list, being that they are both champions of lower organizations than the UFC.  Alvarez has also been pretty inactive lately, having only fought once this year and just recently pulled out of his second scheduled bout due to injury.

no case to be made at all that melendez is in the top 10?

seems like everyone else in this thread has him in their top 5, so....

@lawman well ok so do you have Cole Conrad ranked #2 at HW?

Do you have Hector Lombard at #2 at MW? Aoki is Dream Champ so why isnt he #4 or 5? Do you have Luke Rockhold as #2 or 3 at MW?

Just cause a person is champ does not mean he is higher on the rankings cause if someone is a champ in an MMA organization thats isnt the #1 then even the best guy is not top 5

and @gregory just cause everyone thinks something is right does not make it right
