I thought long and hard what you do for my first ranking and here it is ...

http://www.tapology.com/rankings/956-hype-trains-you-want-to-believe

Description:

Ranking the most hyped fighters you want to believe in.

Hype-trains have a tendency to eventually get derailed, but every now and then they turn into the real deal (remember when Anderson Silva was a hyped UFC newcomer?).

My definition of hyped: Youngster making waves in lower promotions (Michael Page), touted prospects (Erick Silva, Rory MacDonald), fighters who've made a splash in their last 2-3 fights (Abel Trujillo), successful veterans stepping it up a notch (Glover Teixeira, Hector Lombard), UFC champion potential (Overeem, Gustafsson), Champions in lower promotions (Michael Chandler, Pat Curran, Gilbert Melendez).

Feel free to put your own spin on the definition of hyped :)

You can rank either by how much you believe in the hype or how much you want the hype to be true (I chose the latter, so don't be surprised if you see some weird names at the top of the list :) ) ... it'll only make the ranking more interesting ...

Which hype-train do feel safe to stay on board?

p.s. I apologize in advance if a list like this or similar already exists :)

Michael McDonald is way above everyone else. I have been following him since his Tachi Palace fights. Hes one of the few guys I can honestly say I have been a fan of him since the beginning.

Yup, McDonald's a beast ... I REALLY hope to see him as bantamweight champ, as you can see in my rankings, I have him waaaaay up higher than Barao :)

Here is my list, tried to select some other fighters outside of the UFC.

But Nr.1 is Gunny, I think he can do great things...

I agree ... I really believe in him ...

If you see the full rankings, I've got loads of non-UFC fighters too, but since I mainly watch the UFC these days (I don't live in the US, so I have a more limited access to MMA), I've become more of a fan of UFC fighters these days ...

When I was living in Japan I was naturally more drawn to the PRIDE and DREAM fighters, but that hasn't been the case for a long time ;)

I also have high hopes for Gunnar and Overeem.

Left out a lot of the more well known UFC guys, but went ahead and threw Phil Davis on there because he's still young and if he figures out how to use his range and striking he'll be tough.

@CthulhuJones, Phil Davis was on there ... just not very high because I'm not that "emotionally invested" in him  (I had him at #40) :)

But yes, I'm pretty sure I've left out loads of guys (both UFC and non-UFC), that's where you guys come in and where it starts getting interesting :)

@curtwag84, yup, that'll do ... basically anyone who is talked about with a rising future ... you decide whether you rank according to "what you want" or "how real it really is" ... or even "how big his hype is", that could be a ranking good method too ...

For example, I ranked Michael Page in my top 5 because I really want the hype to be true, but if I were to rank him according to how "proven" his hype is or how far I believe he can really go he'd probably be ranked 30-70-ish :)

I've got 21 contributors on my ranking, so I thought I'd bump to see if I can get the extra 4 for the award.

Anyone wanna help me out here? :)
