Hunt didn't beat Fedor and winning a split decision against Wand (whom he out weighed by 50 lbs as you already pointed out) and beating Crocop (whom he had already fought in K-1 and lost a UD to) in what amounted to a Kickboxing match still doesn't make you one of the best strikers in MMA. My point stands if you can stop a fight from going to the ground so that you can implement your striking A.You're not that good of an MMA fighter (Dan Hardy and Paul Daley) and B. You're not that good of a MMA striker.

"This isn't the best example but Daiju Takase beat Anderson Silva, and Anderson is the consensus number one, and Takase isn't top 100. " If he beat him tomorrow the same way he beat him before would he be ranked higher? If not how come? He clearly would have beaten the best fighter in the world twice.

Styles make fights is a cliche, but it's true. A great striker might lose to a wrestler, but the wrestler can lose to a good striker with good wrestling, then that guy could lose to the great striker. Overall rankings shouldn't be about who beat each other, but who accomplished more in their careers.

If Takase came back, beat Anderson again, because somehow his style matches up well with Anderson, he wouldn't be number one. He has done nothing in his career other than beating Silva, and Silva has beaten every other decent middleweight.  Anderson would probably drop a bit but Takase wouldn't become number one.

And about Hunt, you're right, he isn't a very good MMA fighter. He's a great striker though. He beat Cro Cop in MMA and he beat Wanderlei Silva in MMA because he out struck both of them. When he's fighting someone who can't or won't take him down (Wanderlei and Cro Cop) then he IS a great striker.

@thiago, I don't get how you can not like Wanderlei. You can like Hendo better, he's awesome, but Wanderlei is probably top 5 most entertaining, and I've never seen a fighter care more about his fans then he does.

This is like when you hated Shogun before 128 and I was like...why?

Styles make fights isn't a cliche it's BS. Fighters make fights. As far as your thoughts on rankings, it's valid but only in this particular discussion. In weightclass rankings how can Fighter A lose to Fighter B and still be ranked higher?

"Overall rankings shouldn't be about who beat each other, but who accomplished more in their careers. "
That's why Chuck's wins and accomplishments are better then Wand plus he beat him.

First "I'd say out striking Cro Cop, Wanderlei and Fedor solidifies you as one of MMA's best strikers". Then "When he's fighting someone who can't or won't take him down (Wanderlei and Cro Cop) then he IS a great striker."

Your second statement is far from the point you initially made but whatever.

Ok, first, about Hunt. When I said he was one of MMA's best strikers,  I didn't say he is one of the best fighters in MMA who is a striker (like I said earlier). He is one of the best strikers who came over to fight in MMA. And when I said this I was talking about his fight with Wanderlei, who couldn't take him down, therefore making him one of the best MMA strikers...are you following me here? I know it's kind of confusing and it's hard to get the point across in typing, but as long as he isn't threatened by takedowns he's a great striker, and when he was fighting Wanderlei, he was a great striker. This debate isn't about Hunt, it's a sub-debate about the strikers Wand fought.

If you don't believe in the whole styles make fights thing, just take a look at the LHW division. Machida beat Rashad, Rashad beat Rampage, Rampage beat Machida. If a fighter beats another fighter, he moves above him in current rankings, but not all-time rankings.
