If there is anyone I would want to see step in for Khabib and fight Cowboy, it would have to be Nate Diaz.

Ferguson is a good idea. However he's already booked for a fight. Al Iaquinta is also booked for a fight on the same card as Ferguson, but he likes short training camps, so I'd like to see him step up too.

Why not give it to Al? The guy has assembled a nice little run. Clearly if he was meant to make a run at the title, he would have to fight a guy like Cerrone eventually. Plus, after his questionable split decision victory over Mas, I'm going to personally need to see some validation for his status as a top 15 guy.

The only top ten fighters that I could see that the UFC could potentially move out of a fight to match up against Cowboy is Michael Johnson or Anthony Pettis (which I see as extremely doubtful due to the fact that he just lost the title and that the UFC probably wants to keep the UFC on Fox: Chicago card in tact).  Other than that, I don't think the UFC will move Alvarez or Mendelez to fight Cowboy.

I can honestly see it being Benson again, simply because he's one of the few guys I can think of with the balls to fight Cowboy on 3 weeks notice

@Cthulhu  But does the UFC want to have Benson fight someone he already lost to?  I know there is the whole controversial decision thing, but I don't know if that would work.

Meh, Benson and Cerrone have fought a few times, let em have a quadrilogy. I don't really want to see it after the last fight either. It was fairly boring and it makes no real sense for Cerrone, but again, I can't think of any other guys that are going to be chomping at the bit to fight Cowboy on 3 weeks notice. Everyone knows Benson will, and he's still a big name. I REPEAT; I DON'T WANT TO SEE IT EITHER.

Edited b/c I forgot about one of their fights lol. GIVE EM A 4TH DANCE TOGETHER.

My money is on Josh Thomson stepping up.

Honestly, his injury proneness makes it more likely he makes it to the Cerrone fight than the July card.
