This is like a paradox. The UFC needs someone to step up on short notice for a lightweight fight, but Donald Cerrone is already in the fight. Guess they need to work on human cloning.

If the winner of this fight is still getting a title shot than no one makes more sense than Tony Ferguson. This guy has been a roll and has a lot of momentum right now. It would also make for the most exciting fight imo since both guys have good well-rounded skill sets. The only other option that makes sense is Michael Johnson. It's between those two guys if the fight remains a #1 contender fight.

the winner doesn't have to get a title fight. I think Khabib should fight RDA as soon as he's back anyways.

@BuffaloBen  I'm a big Khabib Nurmagomedov fan, but there is no way that he deserves to be handed an automatic title shot .  Khabib hasn't had a fight in over a year due tearing his meniscus twice, so any momentum he had to get a title shot after beating RDA is effectively dead.  Not only that, the idea to give Nurmagomedov an automatic title shot after coming off his second surgery to his meniscus that has sidelined him for a year and have him leapfrog over guys that have been actively fighting like Pettis, Melendez, Johnson, and Cerrone is ridiculous.  I do think that, should Nurmagomedov beat his next opponent when he gets healthy, he should become the heavy favorite to get next shot at the title.  But as of right now; Nurmagomedov should only get his title shot after fighting one of the top ranked guys in the division, because of the year long injury layoff he has had.

I guess you are right. I just want to see the RDA Khabib rematch so badly. Doesn't it leave a bad taste in your mouth when there is someone who has beaten the champion fairly recently? I'm sure RDA wants to erase that from his record as much as Khabib wants a crack at the belt.

@BuffaloBen  Oh there is no doubt about that.  A rematch between Rafael Dos Anjos and Khabib Nurmagomedov would be an important fight for both fighters; as that fight serves as a statement fight for

For Dos Anjos, it's an opportunity to further legitimize himself as a champion by avenging a loss that he could shake of as being a fluke.  Furthermore, even though Khabib lost his chance to fight for the title against Pettis due to injury; with a win against Nurmagomedov, RDA can put to bed any remaining naysayers (if there are any left after UFC 185) that feel he wasn't the rightful #1 contender to fight Pettis for the belt.

For Nurmagomedov, it's a chance to re-confirm himself as one of, if not the most, dominant lightweight in the division.  It also serves as a way to remind people that RDA's loss to him was not a fluke and that Dos Anjos was merely a placeholder title contender/champion until he fully recovered from the issues with his knee.  Furthermore, it serves as a platform for him to leap into stardom and become a big name fighter for the UFC in the United States as well as in Europe; with specific regards to Russia (a market the UFC has been aggressively trying to get into for a while now), and to a lesser extent the rest of Eastern Europe.

Speaking of RDA/Khabib, anyone else have Khabib ranked over RDA in their rankings? If they had a close fight, I'd have RDA as #1 by default, since he's the champ. But Khabib beat him pretty clearly in a 30-27 sweep, and I can't say that RDA is better than Khabib, at least right now.

If/when they do again, we can have a rematch.  I'll keep Khabib though, you silly ******.

At the rate Khabib's going by the time he gets a chance to rematch RDA he'll be 35 with the knees of an 80 year old.
