Koschecks TDD is much better then Fitch and Story's. his power is better too so he could very well win this.

Edit: is that the official poster for Aldo vs Pettis? cause it's pretty cool.

If Maia managed to get Sonnen to the ground I don't see why he couldn't do the same to Koscheck, and when ge takes him down he will submit him

@AllHailKrull, yup that's the official poster ... very cool indeed :)

I don't see Maia having problems getting Kos down, he's a giant welterweight and Kos has been looking quite unmotivated of late (he was looking weird in the Lawler fight even before he got caught).

I'll be surprised if this goes past the 2nd round.

Koscheck has lost to Hendricks and Robbie Lawler.  The Hendricks loss really hurt because many fans thought Kos really won it.

But if Kos drops this fight to Maia, and he probably will, it will be 3 losses in a row.  Just who did Kos piss off to get this fight?  While it is good to fight a highly-ranked name, this is one that might pull the lever and drop the invisible trap door under Kos' feet.

But I doubt the UFC will release him.  He's still entertaining, still has a name, and has a good trash-talk game.

But his $78,000 salary will be a big burden for him to carry forward.  That might be the most relevant factor in whether or not he gets cut.

While I might not like Kos too much because of his big mouth, I always like to watch him fight.

Don't you guys think this is a step down for Maia? Didn't he just beat a top-5 in Fitch?

Maia vs Kampmann would have been a better fight or Koscheck vs Marquardt.

Maia's got this in the bag. I honestly think Maia might even be able to outwrestle him just considering what he did to Fitch. But then again, Kos could motorboat his ass.

Maia's wrestling has gotten so much better. Can't tell if he's been working on it, or the new weight class allows him to better utilize wrestling skills that he already had.

I think it's probably because of his size. I hope Koscheck doesn't fight like Fitch and actually tries to keep it standing.

Maia's grappling skills hardly rely on wrestling as much as it relies on judo.

He usually goes for throws or sweeps and not slams.

He's a judo black belt and has done some crazy throws in the past on bigger guys. Remember he rag dolled Chael into a round 1 triangle choke a couple of years ago and Chael's a much bigger fighter than most of the guys he's going to be fighting at welterweight.

This fight doesn't make sense ranking wise, but it makes sense as Kos is relatively big UFC name and is pretty well known so a win for Maia over Kos would be a relatively big win for him.

Maia has the grappling skills, power and strength to take Kos down and he has the BJJ submission skills to either submit him, come close to submitting him or controlling him on the ground to a decision win like he did against Fitch.

Really there's not many guys at welterweight who can beat Maia.
