It all matters where the fight ends up.

Standing and I don't think Frank will win, but if he gets Reem down he's got it.

The formula to beat Mir is there. If you pressure him on the fence and beat him up in close he doesn't seem to have an answer. Overeem does that really well with his knees.

The problem with Mir is that he doesn't really have great takedowns, especially when he's fighting someone more explosive than him. (In modern MMA, that's virtually everyone in the UFC HW division). He tends to find himself on the ground only when his opponent puts him there by taking him down or -- usually -- dropping him.

I expect Overeem to take a more cautious approach with Mir, but when he smells blood he'll go for the finish, and likely earn it, before Mir can mount any kind of BJJ-based comeback. But stranger things have happened. This is in all likelihood a loser leaves town match in terms of the UFC HW top 10, and the high-paid loser will likely earn a pink slip.

Am I the only one who feels like Overeem vs Mir should be on the aired prelims or something? Both these guys are on back to back losses (three losses for Mir consecutively )and whoever loses either retires or gets released ( In Reems case ).

Koscheck vs Woodley aren't top 10 welterweights either, Woodley typically a boring fighter coming off a loss, Koscheck who's really at the end of the road in his career coming off 2 losses himself.

I mean, I just feel like the main card of PPV's is for guys in the top 10 or surging their way into that spot like McGregor's, Matt Brown's, Gegard Mousasi's(just dropped to 185). I am confident there will be a more PPV worthy fight on the prelims than Koscheck vs T-Wood. I feel like Mir vs Overeem is a fox sports 1 co main or something, put Travis Browne vs Fabricio Werdum on a main card instead I think.

The Chael vs Rashad fight even is two guys who are 1-2 in their last 3 as a co main event. This has to mean something, right?

Antonio Bigfoot Silva - 13 KO/TKO Finishes ... Alistair Overeem didn't take him seriously. Loss

Travis Hapa Browne - 11 KO/TKO Finishes ... Alistair Overeem didn't respect his striking. Loss

Frank Mir - 3 KO/TKO Finishes ... ???

Hopefully Alistair Overeem has learned from his past mistakes that it doesn't matter if you have 1 KO/TKO finish or 100 KO/TKO finishes, when you weigh 250 pounds all it really takes is one punch to finish your opponent. If Overeem comes out with that thought in mind and respects Mir's stand up, covers up, and defends against his strikes, i believe he could buzzsaw Mir like he did Lesnar.

I dunno.. I'm a Mir fan, but he looked like he didn't even want to be there at the weigh ins against Josh Barnett. I have to question how much he really wants to keep doing this.

I really think this fight is going to come down to who wants it more. If Mir can take it to the ground, I think he can get a sub on Reem.. if it stays standing, then Reem has a decent chance of TKO'ing Mir.

@Nomad: You're asking the UFC to risk serious PPV revenue by stacking a main card with people casual fans aren't familiar with. You build those guys up on televised events, then promote them to PPV broadcasts when they're established draws. Koscheck, Reem and Mir are established UFC fighters and former contenders. They've earned their place on main cards.

Sonnen and Evans are current top tenners and very relevant in the 205 title picture, even if they both lost to the current champion.

The UFC would much rather have Reem lose and cut him than have Mir lose and cut him.

The UFC's always looked for a way around of building Mir as the former UFC heavyweight champion and have always kept him around as a relatively important heavyweight gatekeeper.

Meanwhile Reem is someone they signed with the hope of having him steamroll Lesnar and then fight JDS for the title, but Reem failed the drug test and then they give him another chance by letting him fight guys it was a sure thing he would've beat and he lost.

I think it's a given who the UFC would much likely rather like to keep around on their roster.

No matter which way we see the fight going, I think it's safe to say that the loser could be getting cut from the UFC and/or have the face the fact that it's time to hang it up all together.

Looking at both fighters' recent performances and who they have both beaten and lost too, it's hard to say who is going to win and who is going to lose.

Mir has beaten some tough opposition in Roy Nelson, Big Nog twice, and beat a similar styled opponent in Cheick Kongo. While Overeem demolished Brock Lesnar.......a fighter who crushed Mir the last time that they fought.

Overeem in his last few fights (with the exception of Brock Lesnar) has fought kind of overconfident and has left himself open to being KO'd  because of the lack of respect that he has for his opponent. Frank Mir is a far more dangerous fighter, IMO, than Antonio Silva and Travis Browne for Overeem to fight any kind of ****y against. Any fighter who has ever fought ****y against MIr has paid the price for it. Just ask Tim Sylvia, Cheick Kongo, Roy Nelson, and Big Nog.

Mir in has last few fights has really shown signs of being battle worn. He's training with Greg Jackson, and it has seemed to improve his cardio, but his performance against Daniel Cormier was atrocious at best, and his losses to JDS and Josh Barnett were pretty bad. Mir has never been known to have a high threshold to withstand punishment, but then again neither has Overeem.

It's an interesting fight to say the least. The loser may have to face the fact that it's the end of the line for their MMA career, and the winner finds himself back in the win column with a victory over a highly respected top 10 mixed martial artist.

I want Mir to win, but something tells me that Overeem is finally going to find all the tools that he needs to put a solid victory together.

If Overeem had a really good chin, good cardio, or high fight IQ, I would see him as a sizable favorite....He has none of those things. Mir...Ugh....I never know with him. That dude can seemingly make a comeback and beat anybody on any given night (see Lesnar 1 and Big Nog 2), but then has pitiful performances (his last 3 fights). For Mir this 3-fight losing streak is the first time in his career he's lost back-to-back fights, let alone 3-in-a-row. For Alistair, well, he just hasn't looked any where near like he did before he got popped for steroids. Ever since he tested positive he's looked fairly mediocre. Not sure who I'm gonna go with on this one. I'll have to decide closer to the fight.
