Hominick vs. Yagin Wiki Update Wiki

Hominick and Yagin met in a featherweight bout on the main card.

Both fighters came out fast, circling and looking to set a high pace. Yagin landed the first pair of stiff strikes, catching Hominick with his jab as he came forward. Yagin continued to catch Hominick with his lead hand, varying between jabs and hooks. Hominick found his range after the first two minutes, landing his jab and a few straights, one of which cut Yagin. Yagin wobbled Hominick with a right hook then knocked him down with a follow up uppercut and attacked with some brutal ground and pound that had the Canadian scrambling. Yagin allowed a recovered Hominick to stand, but the damage had been done, as Hominick was bleeding from his left eye. The faster Hominick adjusted on the feet and began landing with a higher percentage. Both fighters displayed damage between rounds.

Yagin again landed hard at the beginning of the second as Hominick struggled to adjust. Hominick turned up the heat midway through the round and began landing straights, but again Yagin dropped him with a big shot and followed him to the ground. Hominick got back to his feet, his face swelling badly from the damage, and took it to Yagin with straight punches that bloodied him up. Hominick pressed forward aggressively in the final minute, landing a few strikes then ducking out of danger as both men absorbed significant damage.

Yagin went to the body early in the third, landing to the ribs as Hominick looked for the straights. Hominick began landing jabs with a high percentage, backing Yagin. Yagin continued to throw back, but Hominick finally established his superiority on the feet in the third, battering his opponent with jabs and crosses all around the Octagon. Hominick rocked Yagin as the final minute approached with a cross then attacked against the fence with a series of punches. Yagin backed Hominick off with big counters.

The judges scored the bout 29-28 Yagin, 29-28 Hominick, and 29-28 Yagin, giving him the Split Decision victory.
