I have to admit, I'm firmly in the camp that the UFC has been watering down their product via over-saturation this year.

Well, I understand that they have a huge roster to support, but no clear distinction in quality has been apparent between many PPV main cards and FOX and FS1 main cards in 2014.

Hopefully this is a step back toward stacked PPV cards instead of a rare occurrence.

Pretty cool they are letting Conor McGregor headline a PPV. What's that? Demetrious Johnson is headlining? Yeah right, he is the worst PPV draw champ this company has. If this card does over 150k it is because of McGregor not Johnson.

I agree Skellier. Headliners are the main factor in PPV sales.

Don't be foolish. McGregor is not really a "star". He doesn't have a crazy amount of star power. Majority of casual fans have no idea who he is, unlesss of course, those fans are Irish. As for Johnson headlined; the problem is not him. It's the fight itself. The fact he is facing Chris Cariaso that doesn't make it a great headliner. Mighty Mouse is the flyweight champion, one of the best. He absolutely deserves to headline PPvs, whether you or ignorant fans like you, want him to or not.

McGregor is on the bubble point of becoming a star.  There's going to be a lot of hype and trash talk heading up to this fight that the Irish press will be all over and the MMA press will be all over.  If McGregor wins this fight impressively he could be fighting for the belt in his next outing.

So I think I partially agree with @Mike but that there is a bit more to it.

I hope Poirier spoils all of that!

I'll be honest, there are probably four or five fights on the card I'm more excited about than the main event.
That said, I still think it's a decent fight, but just not a fight I can get too hyped for.

Conor vs Dustin
Cat vs Nunes
Eddie vs Cowboy
Green vs Masvidal

Actually, all the fights look damn good to me.

Sidenote - those prelims would be a great main card on a Bellator or WSOF show.

I still don't think Cerrone/Alvarez gets made for this one. But fingers crossed.

@poir ... if Dustin morphs into a top-10 gatekeeper (beats everyone else but can't get close enough to the belt), he should definitely change his nickname...

Jones attacked Cormier because he feels threatened. Like when Silva kissed Weidman. You start acting funny when you smell your own blood in the water.

They couldn't have picked a better main event? Maybe a non title fight with 2 big names? Sorry, Demetrious is the worse ppv draw ever.

Kind of weak to whine about that with the rest of the card stacked. They don't have a ton of options when they had a great main event, it got ruined by injury, brought in the perfect replacement, and had that ruined by injury as well. Mighty Mouse is a great fighter, it's just he hasn't really been "sold" to the casual crowd and Cariaso is a ****** contender who probably wouldn't be on a win streak if Horiguchi hadn't gotten injured.

Agreed, that's kind of like saying "hey, this blow job and balls fondling while I'm playing my Xbox is fun, shame you're not doing that thing I like with your finger in my butt too"

EDIT:: Though I disagree about MM not being sold to the casual fan ... he's been plenty sold, he's headlined Fox cards and been thrusted down everyone's throat (rightfully so) ... problem is the casual fan ain't buying because all "he" likes is seeing colossal big guys knocking each other out. The casual fan is stupid.

Also, MM's lack of colourful character isn't helping him a lot either, but what can you do, that's the way he is, at least he's not attempting to fake it like Kennedy or Lentz. It comes out pretty weird when it isn't natural. He's a great champion and doesn't need to fake anything.

Wait, so you're not excited for Romero/Kennedy and Cruz's long awaited return?? I love this card so much, am I ecstatic about the Main Event? Not really, but only because I think its a huge mismatch. All in all I love watching MM fight so I can live with it, especially when this card is so stacked. I'm so pumped for this!

I dont know who why the flyweights get so much ****.  I understand the lack of depth in the division, but with the expansion into the asian and Mexican markets thats quickly going to change.  They put on really exciting, fast paced fights, and they're extremely technical, which i like.  I understand they don't score the knockout as much as the heavy guys but for me mma isn't about Knocking people out.  if all i wanted to see was fouls get knocked stiff id just go to worldstar hiphop and watch there videos of idiots flinging fists.  I love the technique of the sport, which is in every sense of the word, an art form.  Flyweight is by far my favorite division and im totally not saying that because im 5'3.
