I have to admit, I'm firmly in the camp that the UFC has been watering down their product via over-saturation this year.

Well, I understand that they have a huge roster to support, but no clear distinction in quality has been apparent between many PPV main cards and FOX and FS1 main cards in 2014.

Hopefully this is a step back toward stacked PPV cards instead of a rare occurrence.

Johnson vs. Cariaso is the new headliner. Obviously this card took a big hit, but I'm still pumped for it.

Johnson/Cariaso
McGregor/Poirier
Cruz/Mizugaki
Zingano/Nunes
Kennedy/Romero
Green/Masvidal
Howard/Ebersole
Cote/Thompson
Tuck/Lee
Gamburyan/Gibson

******* stacked.

should have just let McGregor v Poirier headline it and make Johnson v Cariaso the co-main.  We all know what the real draw on this card is.

If Cowboy/Alvarez can be made, this card still has the chance to be the best PPV card of the year.

That being said, there is still no reason why Cariaso is apart of a PPV headliner.

Why are people complaining about the card? Top to bottom it's still one of the best PPVs in recent memory. A fight like Cerrone/Alvarez (if it happens) does not need to be on this card. Put it on a card that's actually struggling.

Holy ****. The UFC is giving refunds to people that bought tickets to 178. What a load of ****. This card is still awesome. Bring it back here to Toronto, please. I promise you I will buy a ticket without complaint. The people who bought tickets to that god awful 177 card should get a refund..

I think Cariaso should get injured and then Lineker can get a mostly undeserved title shot and offer a more compelling fight. I legit have no idea who Cariaso is, not as hardcore of a fan as some of the people here but follow the sport closely and have zero excitement for this fight and I LOVE watching Mighty Mouse fight.

Agreed.

Trying to look on the bright side, hopefully the UFC learns some PPV lessons for 2015. Not that this is their fault. But they've saturated and spread these PPVs out way too thin this year. This is the **** that happens.

Honestly, even the Johnson/Cariaso fight is one I'm looking forward to. Do I see Cariaso winning? Nope. But he is a scrappy guy. This could be a more entertaining fight than people expect. But I know.. they're flyweights, so after the fight people will talk **** about the little guys. Talking about how they could beat them up and whatnot. You know.. the logical ****.

Cariaso could be a compelling fight. He's a good striker. He's fast. Cardio for days. Pretty good ground game. But he has like negative power. His punches actually give people more health. Good luck trying to be a fighter who has to overwhelm and tire your opponent out against someone like DJ.

There are 5 fights on this card that I'm more interested in than the main event (even though it's an ok one) - hopefully card strength helps boost MM's PPV sales.

I guess this card's going to serve as final proof as to whether strength of card or headliner are the main selling points for UFC cards because sadly MM is a proven slow seller as a headliner (even against higher ranked opponents) so if this card sells it shows that bulk UFC PPV consumers look lower than the main event when deciding whether to buy.

This is a question I've asked myself a lot, since it seems in Boxing the headliner is everything, while in MMA (or at least in the UFC where they have a deep enough roster) the card should be the seller much more than the headliner. Hopefully this card proves me right in thinking so (though if it doesn't it won't prove me wrong, it'll only prove that eveyone's stupid. I'm never wrong, when I am - everyone is stupid ;) ).

Even without Jones/DC still a pretty sick card. Really looking forward to the Poirier/McGregor fight!

Moving Johnson/Cariaso to this card might be the weirdest thing the UFC has ever done. They destroyed a card that was already pretty ass. They could have just brought McGregor/Poirier up, taken Green/Masvidal off the prelims, and still had a pretty damn fun card.

The fact Vegas is able to get refunds to this card really pisses me off man. This card was supposed to be in Toronto, and if it still were I would have bought tickets by now, and I promise you, if I did and the card was in it's current state, I would be happy as all hell. It's an awesome card. But no the greedy as **** 'fight capital of the world' (-.-) wants more. No. How about you focus on the real people that need refunds; Sacramento.

The way I see it, the headliner is everything when it comes to establishing a baseline of PPV buys. In terms of pushing those buys into exceptional territory, that's where the rest of the stacked card comes into play, but I don't think it works in reverse.

Casual fans were going to buy based on Jones/Cormier, while sometimes-fans were going to buy because they've been assured by hardcores that it's one of the deepest cards around. Without a quality headliner, though, and because the UFC has had several misfires this year and doesn't currently enjoy the goodwill from fans they've had in the past, you're not going to convince casuals to fork over $60 for a returning Cruz, a rising McGregor and two top 10 MWs. Just not gonna happen. It's still a great card, but it needed that headliner.
