Predictions: 8 of 13 Winners, 2 Perfect, 490 Points | Tied for 278th
Why would the UFC do this? I know several people, myself included, who would pay one hundred dollars to watch this live.
EDIT: I know Shogun has been making us sad lately, but I think what I said still stands.

Macdonald vs Pickett
Brandao vs Pineda
I think both these will be in talks for fight of the night

They're earning their 100 million $ for 7 years contract, cashing in on commercials and sponsors, increasing their fan base by putting exciting fighters on the wider-audience shows, helping their partner (FOX) launch their new channel with a bang, making bonafide stars out of their exciting prospects, building bigger fan bases for the lower weight classes (Bendo headlined two Fox shows) ...
Do you think the UFC's main income is from PPVS? Not even close.
PPV's are a nice little slice of the UFC's income. I'd say it's no more that 10-15% and I'm being "kind" because I don't know the actual numbers.
In fact, I'm pretty sure that with the FOX deal and their sponsorship and commercial money + merchandising and all the rest they could be very profitable even if they didn't put on another PPV again.
I think PPV's are there because they're still a nice way to pad the bank account and they're a good way to gauge how much each big star is actually worth to the company so they know how far they can go when this fighter comes up with a new contract and decides to ask for Anderson Silva money :)

As for the revenue stream, I think PPVs account for much more than 10-15% of gross revenue right now. But IMO that will all be changing over the next 5 years with the FOX deal. I fully expect PPVS to be a thing of the past by the end of the decade.

instead of the old way : Facebook > Fuel > FX
now they are doing : Facebook > FS1 > FS1
thats because FS1 is getting most the Fuel programming on a channel more people get , and I believe they are taking all sports programming from FX and moving it to FS1 trying to make a channel to compete with ESPN
no more Fuel fights no more FX fights . and PPV's should be formatted as Facebook>FS1>PPV
