I was wondering who that might be? I've got JDS on the top of that list.

I don't actually think JDS is that good of a boxer. He's good enough, but more importantly he's athletic, powerful and fast.  And most people at heavyweight are missing at least one of those things.

A lot of people here have Muay thai fighters, not people who actually "box"

I think my list has good "boxers" maybe not the best strikers, but certainly the best boxers.

that's why tapology has the "best strikers" ranking, which i think makes more sense than this. Even actual boxing is used a lot differently in mma to where it is hard to pinpoint.

Anderson has great Muay Thai, but he undoubtedly also has some of the best boxing in MMA.

I watched an interview with Freddie Roach saying, when he trained with Silva he wasn't very impressive, but then he goes in the octagon and you see what he does. I think He depends way more on his Muay Thai and not his Boxing. I mean Chael "out boxed" him.

A lot of the punches Sonnen landed were more because of the threat of the takedown more than any boxing advantage.

@AnAlias That's just hearsay. You don't know if he got hit because he was afraid of the takedown for a fact. I mean Chael didn't fake the takedown. he slipped in some nice straights and overhands.

In any kind of striking-only match (boxing, kickboxing, muay thai) obviously Anderson destroys Sonnen.  Get real.

Meh...I think it's very clear that Anderson is a better boxer than Chael Sonnen if you look at their careers.  Chael often feinted the takedown in that fight, and Anderson was obviously anticipating it.  Anderson seemed surprised every time Sonnen came at him with punches.

It doesn't discredit Sonnen to say that the reason he was so effective was because Silva didn't know what he was going to do.   It's a credit to Sonnen's ability to implement a good strategy.

But you can't isolate Sonnen's standalone striking technique and think it's on par with the top strikers in the sport.  Maybe that's not what you were trying to say anyway.

My main point was Chael Sonnen outstruck (boxed, mainly, because Chael Sonnen was a successful amateur boxer) -  him in the fight. You can't get upset at me ahah, I'm stating facts. We only have one Sonnen Vs Silva fight to analyze and it was dominated on the feet by Sonnen.

I don't want to go down the Silva Sonnen path. I'm hugely bias for Sonnen and I just don't wanna get irrationale.
