No one said Vitor wasn't a BJJ BB, but all BJJ BB's are not created equal, some are good at just one move, some are good primarily defensively with it, while others are attack masters from all angles. Vitor has never been one to be very impressive off his back.

Anik, you are a bit beyond hilarious at the suggestion that I have never seen Vitor fight before. Since I can only attribute that to your Anik-wit or your ignorance, feel free to pick your fave, I will let that go.

yeah phil will not submit Vinny ******* Magalhaes but i think phil will win vinny cant take phil down phil will keep it standing and beat him with his better striking and at the end of rounds i see phil takeing him down and win the fight but if you think phil can submit vinny with phils blue belt you crazy vinney is a bjj champion

How many folks thought Forest Griffin would have ever subbed Shogun? No one is saying that with both fighters fresh it would happen, but it IS possible in a fight, folks for the superior jiu jitsu player to get subbed. That is an irrefutable truth.

@Judo- But Vinny is known for his grappling and Shogun his striking. That was a bad comparison. You can't say that Vinny's ADCC champion level grappling equates to Shoguns good grappling game. 

Phil getting a GnP stoppage over Vinny is more likely to happen then him submitting Vinny

I think Vinny is the worst matchup possible for Phil Davis.  His strength is grappling and Vinny's grappling is better.  I also think Phil Davis is the one guy that Vinny can outstrike in the LHW division.  Phil davis is the most awkward striker ever.

sreimuth your right how can you compare shoguns grappling to vinnys grappling. also shogun and forest are both black belts in bjj so forest knows bjj. also phil davis is a blue belt in bjj vinny is a black belt and vinny is not a normal black belt his better then most black belts.

@sreimuth: Shogun is "known" for his striking, but that doesn't stop him from being a BJJ BB. So, he is perceived a certain way or a specific part of his game is highlighted by fans, so? I fail to see how that means he's less of a BJJ  BB.

My point is this and only this: superior grappler CAN be defeated WITH grappling IN MMA. That statement is not really debatable because it is solid truth. I am not discussing the statistics of how often that happens, just saying that it IS within the realm of possibility, so it shouldn't be discounted.

Specifically with regard to the bout in question, if Phil is being given an edge on the feet and he drops Vinny is it not possible that he could go for a submission on his stunned opponent rather than go for the TKO/KO finish? Would it not be a nice feather in the cap to say you subbed a grappler of that caliber?
