This card has the potential to be a ******* trainwreck.  I mean, talk about the UFC picking a contender with the least amount of momentum to help hype up a fight.  At least Condit is still relevant after his 5 round war with Lawler.  Never mind the fact that Wonderboy is white ******* hot as a commodity after starching Hendricks in round one earlier this year.  Now they are going to chance the momentum Wonderboy has by matching him up with Rory MacDonald, who is fighting on the last fight of his contract before he hits free agency, all because they want to hurt MacDonald's value on the open market and make good on a vague promise to Woodley about a title shot from a year ago???

******* hell.

Honestly the fight doesn't make the most sense but the way I see it is this is gonna be somewhat of a break for Lawler. A break that he needs very badly right now after the Hendricks, Rory and Condit fights. Stylistically I don't think it gets any easier for Lawler with the other options Thompson, Rory Again, or even Maia.

The Immortal one, weighed in on this fight. -

"You go all the way back, he turned down fights. I know he turned down Hector Lombard saying, ‘he's a teammate' and then Hector's like, ‘we're not teammates, **** you, I'll fight you.' So that's a clear ***** move.

And then sitting out for a year and a half begging for a title shot, coming over a win over - what's Gastellum? Probably fourteen or fifteen [in the rankings] - a very unimpressive win over a sick Gastellum. He had the flu, right. Missed weight by ten pounds."

"I'll tell you what originally kind of got me disliking Woodley is how he claims that he won over Carlos Condit. That's just simply not a win. You cannot claim that a win. Yeah you won the first round but you won the fight by default. Condit got hurt. Condit's not a one round fighter. You don't see Condit win too many fights in the first round. He gets stronger as the fight goes on and he was just starting to pick it up on Woodley and Woodley is a one round fighter.

Then he's always on Twitter just talking and he told me to keep my name out of his mouth when he's the one talking to me. He's just not the personality that I like. He's not a warrior, he's not a soldier. If we were on the battlefields in the 1200's, in the Medieval, the Dark Ages, this ************ would be back hiding in the bushes while guys like me, I'd be on the ******* front lines with a sword in my hand. He'd be over in the ******* bushes throwing tomatoes and **** or something. So he's not my kind of person."

all you condit nuthuggers downvoting me.

Idc but you should be happy woodleys getting the shot. If Robbie destroys him like you expect then he wont rematch condit. First time was his knee and over a year on the sidelines. Next time could be his life!

@GreenHornet Rory was fairly transparent about the situation. He says he doesn't really want to fight anywhere else, but what they offered him to resign was less than he felt he was worth so he tried to negotiate but they couldn't come to a mutual agreement but Rory did say it was not that far off. So he told the UFC he would fight out his contract before renegotiating. He says that's the main reason he's sat out for a year, the UFC just didn't want to sign him to a fight. Now they're putting in against Thompson that way if he wins, he will get the money he wants but if he loses they can under-value him again.

UFC aren't exactly angels.

@Nomad  I never they claimed they were.  I just find it ****** up that they will risk Wonderboy's potential and momentum just to stick it to MacDonald.  Why not have Woodley fight MacDonald and have Wonderboy fight for the title?  Wouldn't that make more sense?

@GreenHornet Woodley and MacDonald already fought, Woodley has nothing for Rory in a rematch, and the fight was a snoozer that nobody wants to see again.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with your point. Rory vs Neil Magny would have made a lot more sense, or Rory vs Condit II. He'll I'd even like Rory vs Nick Diaz. Rory vs Wonderboy is an awesome fight and I am not complaining but it is being made in spite of Rory in my opinion.

I think it's going to backfire ... I can easily see Rory beating Wonderboy and then what? Rory vs. Robbie 3? Robbie vs. Condit 2? Yeah, great fights, blah blah blah, but we've seen them (I don't think #s 2 and 3 will look any different) and not so long ago either. The UFC are taking a HUGE chance on a fresh and exciting contender, imo.

And all that, so he doesn't have to wait too long while Woodley's fighting for the belt??? **** that, setup Wonderboy for the shot (6 fight win streak, devastating win over ex-champ who some say beat Robbie twice) are good enough for me.

Let Woodley (2 fights win streak, neither of them top 5 guys, almost 2 years on the sidelines "because they promised me a shot" not because he tore some **** in his ****) fight someone who legitimately puts you in contention. Setup him vs. Fat Rigg again, have him prove he can beat Condit without him getting hurt, heck feed him to Maia, who cares. Make him fight someone.

Plus there's the unknown factor of MacDonald's up coming free agency. If he beats Wonderboy he might be out negotiating a new deal that might include an immediate title shot stipulation.

Yoss, in that case Maia would be the obvious choice. I agree that Rory/Wonderboy was not the fight to make nor Woodley getting the title shot over Wonderboy but even if Rory beats him, you could have rematch Matt Brown, face Condit or Magny and you have a fresh, new, deserving contender. WW right now is possibly the most interesting division in MMA history.

If Wonderboy loses to MacDonald he's certainly not out of the title picture for long. He's a fresh face, who's got an appealing style. One exciting win, and he'll be back on track.

@unbeknownst Wonderboy is 33, odds are he doesn't have many title runs in him. This is his chance.

@yoss  Not only that, what happens if Rory does decide to go to Bellator because they can offer more?  What does the UFC do then?  To me this a lose-lose, no matter what way you cut it.  The UFC was stupid to guarantee a title shot to Woodley before he earned it.

@rappinpap  It depends.  I wouldn't put it past Coker to try and offer MacDonald a ridiculous contract the UFC couldn't match.

Is Wilson Reis really the best available for DJ's challenger? As much as I don't need to see it, I'd rather them have given the opportunity to Benavidez.

Even if Coker does get him, I don't see it affecting the UFC  at all. Rory is not a big draw outside of Canada.
