There is a lot of potential finishes on this card, and in my opinion, good matchups.  I may roll with Gustafsson for the early finish, or Mousasi if the fight goes on longer.

@ jaffacakehero - In a sport where exciting fights and finishes are what market the sport, an exciting, leave it all in the cage loss gains a ****-ton more stock for a fighter than a cautious, fight-not-to-lose victory. Exciting fighters are praised and market PPV buys. Cautious fighters end up on the undercards. Look at why Jon Fitch got cut.

Don't know if anyone is watching this, but Dana said Mousasi's knee was so banged up before the fight his doctor said he needs surgery after the fight.

@dielegende23,  it's not that I'm a "just bleed" fan, but considering the enormous difference between skill level, I do believe he should have finished this fight. It was a dominant performance, yes, but disappointing nonetheless.

@Skelliher... damn I missed that.  So much for the Gegard/Alexander fight happening soon.

@Jay yeah I'm not arguing that, I was thinking right head kick, right head kick the whole time, or at least one two combo instead of just the jab but Gegard fought a relatively smart fight. He did what he had to do and it was on Latifi to change this since he was the one losing, not on Mousasi.

Mousasi's knee was banged up?

They should have changed the main event to Mousasi vs. Pearson and just had each other knee each other in their hurt knees.

Than Latifi could have Bull Charged Ryan Couture into oblivion.

Entertainment at it's finest.

@jaykool So we are comparing Jon Fitch to Mousasi now ? BTW your point is wrong, if Mousasi had made it a slugfest but lost the fight he stock would have dropped quit a bit, he also was hurt so please leave him alone.

Dude is a warrior 34 fights - 29 finishes !!!!

@ dielegende23 - I agree in part with your post. I was thinking the same thing. "Head kick, combo, do something. Come on Gegard put this guy away already." In a sense, I agree that it was on Latifi to push the fight as well, and force Mousasi to actually fight, and yes Mousasi did fight a smart, calculated, low risk fight to victory, but Mousasi was the fighter with the name and the hype coming into this fight.

Unfortunately, it was actually up to Gegard to make it an exciting fight. It sucks sometimes that this sport is so unforgiving in that fashion, but when a fighter has the name, the hype, and the skills, certain things are expected of said fighter. No matter which way anybody looks at this fight, it was a lose-lose fight for Mousasi, and I commend and congratulate him for the win, and taking this type of fight on such short notice, but if he would've finished Latifi in the first or 2nd round with some sort of devastating KO or submission, he would be a much more marketable fighter among the casual fans, and he wouldn't have lost any stock tonight with many of the hardcore fans.

@ dielegende23 - I'm not comparing Gegard Mousasi to Jon Fitch in the fashion that they are the same style of fighter at all. I just know Mousasi to be a much more exciting and brilliant fighter than the performance he put on tonight. All I meant by that comparison is that Mousasi's next fight needs to be more exciting than what tonight's fight was, otherwise he could suffer the same fate as Jon Fitch, and that would suck because MMA fans such as myself and you know that Mousasi is better than what we saw tonight. Unfortunately, mainstream MMA fans don't really know who Gegard Mousasi is. Most have only seen his fight with Keith Jardine and his fight tonight.

The UFC makes it's money off the mainstream fans, and most of the marketing is geared towards the casual fans. Sucks, but it's true. All I'm saying is that because of that, Mousasi really needs to show the fighter that we all know that he truly is.

@ Lopati - I really like Connor McGregor. I picked against him tonight only because prior to tonight, I didn't know who he really was, but his fighting style, his demeanor, and his post-fight interview really made me take notice of him tonight.

@Jay alright I think we can agree on those terms. I don't think Mousasi lost any stock though Fuel cards get what ? 200000 viewers, this card was probably even less watched since the time it was shown in the USA. Finish or not he fought a good fight (with a injury) and the hardcore fans you mentioned should have noticed that he worked on his TDD and range to not get taken down, the only thing he was missing out on...

@ dielegende - I definitely agree with you there, I can't argue with your post. Thinking about it now, maybe the term "losing stock" might be a little harsh on my part. I think I'm just more disappointed than anything, because I do know that Mousasi is so much better than what he showed tonight.

I'm not reading any other comments, so if this has been said, so be it.

What would you expect Gegard to do in this situation? Him playing it safe and getting a guarenteed win outweighs him trying to get a highlight finish and maybe getting knocked out?  Come on,  adding in all the other factors that played into this fight.

Also in my honest opinion, when  a guy with that much power is visibly scared, he is more dangerous than when he is calm.

I just watched the fight. I thought Mousasi was alright, of course I'd like to see him a little more fired up but this was a high risk fight and he dominated an mma boxing match pretty cleanly. It's not like he ran away trying to score with weak contact shots, lol apparently he was sick too.

Latifi was alright, looked stronger than I thought but Mousasi is a monster. He has so damn much talent, but sometimes it seems like he's extremely calm nearly apathetic demeanor shows in the cage (mostly just thinking of the king mo fight.)

Knowing some facts now that I didn't know before, I realize now that I was too critical of Mousasi. It's just that I was so excited for him to be fighting in the UFC, and I was expecting pretty much the same burst onto the UFC for Mousasi as how Anderson Silva burst into the UFC.

@jaykool, I think that he fought well even without the injury ... he had a LOT to lose, got a totally different opponent switched up on him in a week's notice and needed to avoid being taken and held down because if he lost to Latifi it would've sent him way down the rankings.

It's not like he fought a boring fight, I mean think of it, if this was his idea of fighting safe, that's pretty ******* good, he fought "safe" while punching the **** out of his opponent, pretty good "safe" fight in my books ... just because he didn't go in for the kill this one time (you can't say Mousasi's not a finisher) can't be held against given all the circumstances leading up to this fight, and I'm not even throwing his injury in there, just the fact that he's suddenly facing a Swedish national team wrestler with KO power who's got nothing to lose while he has everything to lose. Mousasi was never one to really give a **** what people say about him and he's always been a very intelligent fighter.

Now if you add the knee injury in there, I think everyone should get off his back, fast.
