"Anderson Silva knocked out Vitor Belfort with the single most innovative, devastating, accurate and absurd strike ever thrown in the history of mixed martial arts."

I didn't know a front kick to the face was considered absurd.

@ AnikM - As much as I agree with you on your post, I also have to remind you, look how easy Matt Hughes' victory over GSP was in their first fight, how easily Matt Serra disposed of GSP in their first fight, how dominately Andrei Arlovski disposed of Tim Sylvia the first time that they fought, and how quickly JDS disposed of Cain Velasquez the first time they met. I'm not so quick to give Vitor a ton of credit, but I'm also not so quick to discredit him either when it comes to him having a rematch with Anderson Silva and being competitive in that rematch if it happens.

Umm I don't know if you people remember this or not, but Princess Silva still has a tough test in Chris Weidman...we might not even see Belfort/Silva 2

@jaykool777,

"look how easy Matt Hughes' victory over GSP was in their first fight"

Watch the fight again buddy, GSP was outclassing him and then decided to go for a Kimura from the bottom (???).

That said, your point is valid, just that specific example a bit off.

I generally don't call quick KO's and indication of how fighters compare (JDS/Velasquez for instance) due to the "puncher's chance" aspect of the game, however Vitor and AS had a chance to dance for a bit and even when Vitor had Anderson somewhat compromised he still got outclassed:

And Anderson ain't gettin' hit by no spinning **** from Vitor Belfort's newly discovered kicks either.

Oh, and ...

(I know, I know, it means jack ****, but I just love the head snap, so awesome)

12 for 13, and finished 96th. Damn.

Vitor's finish is probably going in my top five KO's ever as well, i sat there wondering what just happened when that took place.

Just watched the fights... What the **** is up with Vitor and kicks now?? Rockhold can still hold his own at the top 6-8ish of the division if you ask me but holy **** Vitor blasted him like he shouldn't have even been in the UFC.

@ yossgold - easily was the laman's way of putting it. Quickly would be the more accurate term for Matt Hughes first fight with GSP. However, I've watched that fight many times, and GSP was outclassing Hughes on the feet in that first fight, but once Hughes got a hold of GSP, I knew it was only a matter of time before Hughes finished the fight.

@OldNick A front kick to the face is ******* absurd actually and the 6 people who agreed with you are ******** for not thinking otherwise.

Before Anderson Silva, no one ever even attempted it let alone throw it like a knockout blow. I remember when Joe Rogan said it was the first time he's ever seen someone throw a push kick to the face in any form of striking combat ever, and Joe Rogan's watched a lot more fights than any of us that is for damn sure.

It was thrown perfectly; it cleanly went right through Vitor's guard he had up and it landed perfectly on the chin. You want an accurate strike? There is nothing more accurate than that front kick.

It was innovative because no one even thought about throwing that before Anderson did and now Judokas like Dong Hyun-Kim are attempting it in fights and ****. The push kick era began when Anderson punted Vitor's face.

And of course, it was devastating. Vitor Belfort was never cleanly knocked out in competition before Anderson Silva knocked him out with...that.

Like yossgold said, watch the fight again and you will see Anderson clearly outclassing Vitor in every way before putting him down. jaykool bringing up Matt Serra, JDS, etc etc. is just him trying to find a simple way to justify his argument but MMA is anything but simple.

Don't get too hyped up everyone; it seems like you forget how great Anderson Silva is until he fights. He is head and shoulders above anyone else.

War AnikM, GOAT post.

Although you forgot to mention that what made this kick even more absurd, was the whole Sensei Seagal hubbub afterwards...
