Brown vs. Yahya Wiki Update Wiki
In the fourth bout of UFC Fight For The Troops 2, former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown took on Rani Yahya. Yahya came into the fight 4-3 in combined UFC and WEC competition. Brown, meanwhile, came into the fight 6-4 in combined Zuffa competition.
Rahya began the fight throwing low kicks and looking to stay outside, while Brown soon was able to close the distance and land a strong punch that momentarily dropped Yahya to the ground. Yahya shot for a low single and nearly had Brown's neck locked up, forcing Brown to scramble out and try to wall walk back to his feet. Yahya kept close and worked for a guillotine while Brown kept fighting to stand. Brown landed a short elbow from his back, but found himself mostly defending against the skilled grappler in Yahya. Yahya managed to snake his way around to Brown's back as the round ended.
Yahya flicked punches and kicks to keep Brown away early in the second round, then jumped to a standing guard, threatening with a guillotine that made Brown hesitant to slam his opponent to the ground. Yahya attacked Brown's neck again and constantly had Brown defending on the ground. Brown scrambled out to his feet, and towards the end of the round worked on a headlock on Yahya that never appeared to put the Brazilian in danger.
Rahya closed the distance immediately to begin round three and clinched to work a takedown. Brown could only fight it off for so long and again found himself on his back, this time with Rahya in half guard. Rahya took Brown's back and began throwing down punches to a desperate Brown. Yahya, with a body lock and throwing punches in bunches, was stood up from the position and warned by referee Mario Yamasaki to not hit the back of the head. Brown found a better position momentarily, only to be swept by Rahya and have the fight close out on his back with Rahya on top again.
The judges scored the bout 30-27, 29-28, and 29-28 unanimously for Rani Yahya.
