Combate reports that UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Belfort is being changed into UFC 198, a PPV event, on account of the cancellation of UFC 196.

Makes a lot of sense, and it's really looking like a great card. Lot of top Brazilians on this one.

I think @Killerkris1993 is campaigning for a spot on this card.

I don't usually complain about bout orders but when Silva/Hall got scrapped they needed to do this.

I would like to see Lil Nog on TV so switch that with the Trinaldo fight.

Why is Alves/Barberena on the main card over Maia/Brown? Not only is that a better fight between two ranked opponents, Maia is a legit legend in Brazil, and he's also ranked on Tapology as the greatest MMA grappler ever. Also, Lil Nog vs. Cummins should be on the FS1 prelims.

Maia-Brown will be seen by 3-4 times as many people as Alves-Barberena. People really need to get over this whole main card vs. prelims thing. It's not a factor in the current UFC era.

Headlining the FS1 broadcast gets you seen by around a million viewers. This PPV is great for hardcores but has nothing for casuals. I'd bet it does between 300-350k buys, if that.

The most-promoted positions on cards probably go as follows:

1 - PPV main event
2 - PPV co-main
3 - FS1 prelims main event
4 - Fight Pass prelims main event

Stop thinking about PPV events as one card. They are built and marketed as three-tiered cards, with a headliner on each broadcast platform. They build one card for PPV, one card to boost Fight Pass subs, and one card to please their FOX partners.

@skelliher I get that they want their Fox #'s up and their Subscriptions for Fight Pass up too. That's the business side of it. And I'll most likely watch all the fights since I do fork up the additional $9.99/mo. But it doesn't mean that I have to agree with you or the Ferrita's or Dana White that it is a good idea to put Maia/Brown on the Prelims. Maia is probably the 2nd most likely fighter on the entire card to get a Title shot with a win.

Again I get it but don't agree with Maia/Brown being a Prelim, even if it means they are the #3 most promoted fight and the Main Event of the Prelims...oh but not the Main Event of The Fight Pass Prelims.

@Superstar, you need to remember that these guys, as great as they are, there are a very very few of them who can actually sell a PPV, so in fact it is EXACTLY these title-shot potentials you want to build up as much as you can before their shot.

If Maia's gonna potentially co-headline a PPV card you want 1M-2M people to have watched the fight that put him there rather than 250K-350K (which is what the heavyweights bring in on average these days).

This is in Maia's and Brown's interest too because as of now, Lawler vs. Maia/Brown is a potential 200K bust waiting to happen but if one of them does something special on the FS1 main event, that may change (not a lot, but the strategy is totally understandable).

Then I look at the UFC 199 card and on paper the 5 best fights are on PPV with BJ Penn vs Cole Miller Headlining The FS1 portion and Tom Breese vs Sean Strickland Headlining Fight Pass.

Why not tuck Holloway/Lamas away on Fight Pass and pulling Poirier/Green to Headline FS1 or vice versa. It would be the equivalent.

But anyways I'm not trying to argue with you guys since I have the means to pick and choose exactly which fights I watch and tbh I'll probably watch all the fights tomorrow night.

You it's a tough day when you see so many potentially good fights that some have to be on the Fightpass prelims.

it's all in the marketing strategy to sell Fight Pass subscriptions. If they don't put big fights on there, nobody cares about it.
