Blanco vs. Park Wiki Update Wiki
In a matchup of explosive, aggressive fighters, Park landed first with an inside low kick. Blanco casually bounced around the ring with his hands low and sent a kick to the ankles that tripped up Park. Blanco missed with a superman punch and then blocked a head kick from Park. Park landed with a right hand but Blanco aggressively countered back with a flurry of strikes. Blanco showed more patience over the course of the first round than in recent prior fights, up until the final seconds when he pushed forward with blitzing attack and knee from the clinch.
Blanco came out for round two with his hands still confidently low, while Park cautiously backpedaled away from Blanco's attacks. Blanco unloaded with a powerful uppercut but couldn't connect cleanly, meanwhile Park began to establish himself in the exchanges. A Park low kick landed with 30 seconds remaining in a close round that may have gone in the direction of the underdog Park.
Blanco threw a kick and slipped to the mat at the start of round three, but jumped back up in the grappling-deprived fight. Park landed a kick to the midsection followed up by a punch to the head, but Blanco powered through the combination and put Park on the defensive. Blanco found little success with his powerful lunging uppercuts, proving those who expected a quick finish wrong. A flurry from Blanco with a minute remaining seemed to put his stamp of control on the round, and a small trickle of blood flowed from Park's nose.
The bout, which did not live up to its billing as an action-packed slugfest, nonetheless gave fans an opportunity to see how the unconventional striking attack of Blanco would fare over the course of 15 minutes against a taller fighter with good fundamentals.
All three judges scored the fight a draw, but under the must-decision rules of Sengoku, each sided with Maximo Blanco, who was declared the winner.
