Kelly vs. Siver Wiki Update Wiki
Neither Dennis Siver nor Paul Kelly has ever fought for a world championship, but between them, they have competed with a bevy of men who have. When the pair of dense, well-muscled European strikers met on the Preliminary card of UFC 105, something had to give.
Known as two of the most durable fighters in the lightweight division, striking standouts Siver and Kelly put on a show-stealer when they locked horns in England. While Kelly was known for his technical kickboxing ability, he was severely outclassed on the feet by the shorter and stockier Siver.
Throughout the match, Siver peppered Kelly with a ceaseless barrage of punches and kicks to the head and body. Finally, Siver put an exclamation point on an already-dominant striking display by finishing his British opponent with a picture perfect spinning back kick to the midsection. The blow, which seemed to collide with Kelly’s floating rib, caused the notoriously tough lightweight to crumple to the canvas in submission.
In a sport where clean head punch knockouts are a dime a dozen, Siver is one of the only fighters to consistently go to the body with some of his hardest shots. Although it wasn’t the first time, this was probably the most potent example of the power packed in Siver’s patented liver kicks and side kicks. Body shots delivered by the German dynamo can easily stop a fight, as was the case here.
