I started 1-6 and still finished above you. Might've picked 1 fight better but I got more perfect lmfao.

I didn't feel like there was a 10-8 either way because in each round both guys had moments.

I took Whittaker by dec but I think that should’ve been a draw at the least. I can see Whittaker avoiding the 10-8 in 5th..basically because Romero was too spent to capitalize..but I definitely don’t think Whittaker won the fight.

Crazy that Romero was more competitive on the feet than in the clinch.

Certainly based on how close to finished they were, Romero was the winner. Whittaker was in zombie mode several times. As for traditional round by round scoring I have no strong opinion.

Why care, the fight was irrelevant.

Personally I scored Whittaker V Romero a draw. But I couldn't care less. 1, fight was irrelevant 2. Whittaker will be out for another year. 3. He's not even the real champ.

I scored it a draw. 47-47

R1: Whittaker 10-9
R2: Whittaker 10-9
R3: Romero 9-10
R4: Whittaker 10-9
R5: Romero 8-10

Whittaker obviously won the first two rounds.
In round 3, Whittaker did enough offense including that head kick to prevent the score from being 10-8.
In round 4, those significant shots from Romero near the end weren't enough.
I think it comes down to whether you think round 5 is a 10-9 or 10-8 (Whittaker 48-47 or Draw 47-47). To me, round 5 was a 10-8 round. Romero was very close to TKOing Whittaker and didn't think Whittaker did enough to change it from 10-8 to 10-9, unlike round 3.

The first round could easily have been a 10-8 for whittaker. Yoel literally landed nothing and stood there getting lit up.

Nobody can say that of a single round in which Yoel was dominant.

In any case, it's in the books. Whittaker has beaten Romero with one leg, and one hand thus far.

A 10-8 round in MMA is not the most common score a judge will render, but it is absolutely essential to the evolution of the sport and the fairness to the fighters that judges understand and effectively utilize the score of 10-8. A score of 10-8 does not require a fighter to dominate their opponent for 5 minutes of a round. The score of 10-8 is utilized by the judge when the judge sees verifiable actions on the part of either fighter. Judges shall ALWAYS give a score of 10-8 when the judge has established that one fighter has dominated the action of the round, had duration of the domination and also impacted their opponent with either effective strikes or effective grappling maneuvers that have diminished the abilities of their opponent.

Judges must CONSIDER giving the score of 10-8 when a fighter shows dominance in the round even though no impactful scoring against the opponent was achieved. MMA is an offensive based sport. No scoring is given for defensive maneuvers. Using smart, tactically sound defensive maneuvers allows the fighter to stay in the fight and to be competitive. Dominance of a round can be seen in striking when the losing fighter continually attempts to defend, with no counters or reaction taken when openings present themselves. Dominance in the grappling phase can be seen by fighters taking DOMINANT POSITIONS in the fight and utilizing those positions to attempt fight ending submissions or attacks. If a fighter has little to no offensive output during a 5 minute round, it should be normal for the judge to consider awarding the losing fighter 8 points instead of 9.

There it is Folks.

If anyone has an argument as to why round  one couldn't be a 10-8 based on those criteria, I'd like to hear it.

Actually, I wouldn't. Don't waste my time.

If you honestly don't think Round 5 was absolute domination by Romero, then you got blinders on my dude.  And keep in mind I say this as a fan of both fighters.

I gotta go back and re-watch but the first time through I had 1, 2, 4 all 10-9 for Whittaker and 3 and 5 10-9 for Romero so 48-47 Whittaker. I had put money on Romero to win the big bastard. And Lamas who got lay & pray'd at home. Least my Covington bet hit

Green if you give Romero a 10-8 in the fifth, you have to give Whittaker a 10-8 in the first. He was utterly dominated and did nothing but stand there getting beaten up. That would mean Whittaker still wins 47-46.

Whittaker has beaten Romero twice now. And both times he did it injured. And Romero failed to make weight.

There will be no rubber match. There will be no third fight. Not for many, many moons. And that is how it should be. Whittaker has established himself as the rightful an undisputed king of MW.

I'm re-watching the card today d/t all the scoring controversy. Perhaps without the tension I'll be able to see things different.
