@Jitz, I didn't say what my opinion was ... if I were judging I would give it to Gus, but that's just because I'm a fan and the exact reason I'll never be a good judge ... I say whoever you gave round 4 to you weren't completely wrong and had some merit ... If I were able to be totally objective I might have gone JBJ's way ... but that's a big 'IF' ... I would suck at judging MMA ... Diego Sanchez would never win a fight ;)

The best thing that came out of this fight though is that now Tito can't keep claiming to that dumbass "most-consecutive-LHW-defenses-because-I-managed-to-duck-any-real-competition-ahem-Chuck-Liddell" record anymore.

I could see an argument for giving Jones round 2, but I though Gus controlled the round much better and landed more punches.

The other 4 rounds were pretty clear cut to me. 1 & 3 to Gus, 4 & 5 to Jones.

However, if you were gonna give it 4 rounds to 1 (ahem, idiot judge that I neglected to look up with a simple google search), it would be for Gus. The argument of giving Gus Rd 5>giving Jones Rd 2.

the way i see it Jones won rounds 2, 4, and 5. Even so, he didn´t look like the number 1 pound for pound tonight.

The fight was very close and Im seriously doubting if Jones can make it through Cormier now. I expected a split decision for Jones but hoped Gustafsson did enough. Gustafsson was unbelievably classy in his post fight interview with Rogan, Jones somehow annoyed me still. Look forward next time for both these cats though. I think Gus just became a star.

I just got home from watching the fight, I thought it was a close fight but Gus had clearly won, when I heard the 46-49 score I was sure Gus had won the fight because I thought there's no way someone is giving Jones 4 rounds... but I forgot this is MMA and that was Jon Jones the champion and ******** like this happens.
I saw Gus prove he is the better fighter, he fought his gameplan and stuffed pretty much everything Jones threw at him, **** he took Jon Jones down for the first time in his MMA career!! Jones had his back on the floor for the first time, Jones looked uncomfortable and befulded in the cage, Gus looked in control, confident and agressive. Gus was picking Jones apart little by little, I saw Jon Jones not wanting to close the distance enough to strike Gus, he kept throwing weak leg kicks striking from afar, at moments he looked scared and confused to me. Jones left with the belt but not the winner, right eye his eye was closed, he had a cut on his eyebrow, he could barely speak because of his busted mouth and he left the cage being carried away limping, Gus left walking on his own with a small bruise in one of his eyes., he showed, skills, heart, endurance and class.

The problem with numbers and in particular fightmetric stats is that the view that devastating elbow in the fourth the same as a leg kick. They're both considered significant strikes, but are clearly not doing the same damage and having the same effect on the fight. Or in another case, Aldo's brutal leg kick is considered the same as a weak right hand. Is an Ellenberger right hand the same as a Diaz right hand? Is the Khabib slam worth the same as a weak double leg that catches the guy off balance and gets him down? In my book no, one ran across the cage and slammed you into the canvas with all of his mass and momentum the other flops you to the mat. Just not equivalent, but they are both counted as a takedown.

Unless your able to ascertain the mass and velocity of each strike and how much of the force generated from the strike was absorbed by the opponent your not getting the whole picture.

This is my problem with stats in all MMA fights, not this one in particular. At the very least they need a "very significant strike" stat to get a more accurate picture, but even then I don't think we are ever going a real portrait of a fight based on stats.

Just showed the fight highlights video of the Jones Gus fight to my roomate and its obscenely ridiculous that they only show Jones landing strikes. I don't care who you think won the fight but a good highlight video shows the best moments from each fighter. Roomie thinks I'm lying that it was a close fight, mildly annoyed.

Woke up this morning still thinking of that fight, by the end of the fight both men were zombies. As much as i wanting gus to win after a night sleep i can see how jones got the decision but either way both fighters stock have risen to the top now.It was a perfect storm due to bones record and title defense and gus size mathup and it was brilliant, **** i need more.

I wish Gus had won, but even still I feel a bit vindicated. Seem like everyone was counting Gus out and thinking it was crazy to suggest he could stuff Jones  or that he had that better hands and technical striking edge. I feel he proved both in this fight. The fight went alot like i thought it would. With Gus having the better technical striking with his hands/movement while Jones was more powerful and unpredictable with his kicks/elbows.

Ya most fighters had Gus winning, and as Greg posted a couple pages back, 19 of 20 MMA writers had Jones winning. And FightMetric had Jones winning. I was there live and thought he landed the more diverse strikes and came way closer to finishing. Whatevs.

I scored it 48-47 for Bones, but that was one close fight.  I think that glancing shot that cut Jones in the 1st threw him off a bit.

"The scorecards were all over the place as fans, media, fighters, and judges alike tried to contextualize the violence into a nice, orderly score in the 10-point must system. Basically the score issues arise from the fundamental problem of comparing the kicks of Jones to the punches of Gustafsson. This has been a theme in many close, striking based fights including another Light Heavyweight title fight between Machida and Shogun now almost four years ago. Regardless of how the fight was scored by any individual - I personally scored the fight 48-47 Jones - it was a very close, contentious fight and the word "robbery" should be nowhere near it."
