Estevan Payan Wiki

Estevan Payan is an American featherweight who is currently signed with the UFC. He trains out of Arizona Combat Sports in Tempe, Arizona. He has also competed for Bellator and Strikeforce. Of his fourteen wins, eight have been finishes including five T/KOs.

Payan began his career in 2007 and would compile a 6-1 record in his first fifteen months. He would be signed to compete in the first ever Bellator featherweight tournament in the promotion's inaugural event in 2009. He would win his first fight of he tournament but would later lose in the semifinals. After going 5-1 1 NC in smaller promotions, he was picked up by Strikeforce in 2012, winning his fight against Alonzo Martinez by unanimous decision. He was next scheduled to fight Mike Bravo at  Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy before the event was cancelled. However, the bout was rescheduled for the final Strikeforce event, Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine and he was able to win the fight via TKO in the second round.

Estevan was brought to the UFC when Strikeforce ceased operations in early 2013. He made his UFC debut against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 160, but lost via unanimous decision. This snapped a three year, eight fight undefeated streak. He was expected to take on Charles Oliveira at UFC 166, but had to pull out six weeks before the fight with a broken foot. He took on Robbie Peralta in the first fight of UFC 168. Although the first was a close, back and forth battle, Payan would lose by TKO twelve seconds into the third round.

On 19 April, 2014, Payan faced Alex White at UFC on Fox 11: Werdum vs Browne. Payan lost the fight early by KO at 1:28 in Round 1.

With 3 straight losses in a row and a 0-3 UFC record, Dana White announced Payan was dropped from the UFC.

On 9 August, 2014, Payan faced Eric Regan at Rage in the Cage in his first fight after being dropped from the UFC. Payan won the fight via unanimous decision.

Payan is expected to face Derek Campos at Bellator 126, on 26 September, 2014.
