Pride Total Elimination 2005 Wiki

Following on the heels of successful tournaments in the Middleweight and Heavyweight divisions over the 2003 and 2004 event seasons, Total Elimination 2005 marked the opening of the second Pride Middleweight Tournament. In the Opening Round, Kazuhiro Nakamura, Ricardo Arona, Igor Vovchanchyn, Alistair Overeem, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Kazushi Sakuraba, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, and Wanderlei Silva advanced to the Quarterfinals in some of the most explosive fights in Pride history.

Rua’s first-round TKO victory over Jackson was considered a huge upset at the time of the fight, as no other fighter—other than Wanderlei Silva—had so completely dismantled the powerful contender.
