Did not see that main event going the way it did. Thought Thompson would outpoint Holland in all 5 rounds. He proves he has a chin, and Holland proved he could be humbled - by the most generous opponent.

I honestly think people on here just don't like Holland as a person and try to find things to **** on him. May be a little bit of racism on here but not going to explore that claim any further as it will go into a rabbit hole on this forum that will piss me off and don't want to read

I am also looking as MMA as a platform and job to be wealthy if you are good at it. Obviously, he didn't think he was going to lose this fight, but for making money and raise your stock amongst being a fan friendly fighter, it was actually a brilliant move for him to not grapple. No one said that popularity always means making smart decisions but doesn't mean you are a stupid person. He took a couple of risks, so he can make more money, and it somewhat has worked out for him

The problem with Holland in part is that he talks a lot (even during fights) and he doesn't usually backed that up in big fights (like tonight against Wonderboy, against Brunson or Vettori). Also added to the fact that it usually has fighters with a considerable fan base as a verbal target (Adesanya, Chimaev & Till, etc.). Personally I consider Holland to be far from annoying: he has stopped several attempted robberies in the past and talking during fights is also something that can be related to anxiety issues. Although many people did not like Holland's gameplan (which I still consider to be unwise) with that his label of Fan Favorite and Entertainer was maintained and those 50K of the bonus can perfectly serve them for his arm surgery and subsequent recovery. What is clear is that Holland has shown on many occasions that how to fight still lacks that mentality that characterizes top fighters and that is something to take into account when it comes to step up matchups.

I want fighters to prioritize actually using the correct strategy to win instead of entertainment, this isn't pro-wrestling.

Absolutely fantastic fight card, few critiques

Predictions: 11 of 14 Winners, 5 Perfect, 740 Points   |   Tied for 61st

Tonight showed exactly why we need to get away from the sterility that can often happen in APEX events. Tonight had tons of great finishes and really good fights, the decisions were mostly either great performances or shows of strength or back and forth fighting. Really happy with my picks as they're probably some of the best I've made since joining here about a year ago, but I don't really care that much about that.

Do think there needed to be more bonuses tonight though, Rowe vs Price was fantastic, Nicolau put on a great performance against Schnell, Pearce vs Elkins was awesome and RDA deserved a bit of love too imo. Think beyond the first two I mentioned I'm not super upset at the rest not getting bonuses but I think there deserves to be more of a reward for when people leave everything in the octagon, and so many fighters did exactly that tonight.

All in all, loved the card. Great match-making by the UFC brass, it was Austin-level good except this time the main event lived up to the undercard's excitement. Only other thing that was weird was I found the ESPN feed a bit buggy. Sound kept cutting out and felt like throughout the entire undercard commercials were played over walkouts and discussion periods to an almost unnecessary degree.

Can't wait for 282, if it's as good as tonight we're in for some classics.

We’ve seen jorge vs wonderboy. Jorge can’t beat him on the feet. Neither guy has dropped off as much as people make out. they’ve both lost to the top few grapplers and there’s nothing to suggest the fight goes any different from last time imo. There’s plenty of other strikers in this division for thompson to fight.

I’m starting to think everyone’s completely wrong about Holland. Calling him a dumbass and stuff. He’s a level bellow the world class fighters and will never really crack the top 10 in terms of ability. Maybe he knows that which would actually make him smart. There’s loads of guys who are never going to become elite that have been in the ufc longer than he has yet none of those guys are as popular/well known as him and none of them get paid more than him. He is an unranked fighter fighting in a main event while better fighters are making 30/30 and end up half way down the card. I think half of the hate for him is because people see potential in him or he messes their bets up.

If he won yesterday I’d be up 30 units instead of 1 from yesterdays event. I Should have put more on rda and Nicolau to win by finish and added them in a treble so my own fault really. We all knew rda was levels above bambam but most people played it safe and didn’t pick a method. Gamblers stop hating on guys for them losing your bets. Holland isn’t that good and deep down we all knew that. Sure he could play it smarter and win that fight then lose his next few. Instead he stays unranked with a big name and more winnable fights. On to next week anyway

We should all boycott apex cards btw. They need to go and nothing will happen as long as people keep watching. They feel like low level regional events
