I think a big reason the philly shell isn't utilized in mma as much as it is in boxing is because it requires a more narrow stance, and when you're narrow it's harder to defend takedowns vs if you're square. but if you're fighting someone you know isn't gonna try to take you down, why not?

@el222

Yeah didn't think about that tbh, now that I think about it, Green always sits either heavy on his lead leg or stands tall, he's basically open for both doubles and singles, I think he just trusts his defensive wrestling a lot, it works for the most part too. And yeah that's probably why we saw him use it a lot against Nasrat because he didn't expect a takedown coming his way, and sure enough he won

Yep - the philly shell isn't overly practical in MMA depending on the style of fighter you are up against given it requires your rear hand to be glued to your chin. Doesn't make itself particularly useful against a Dagestani shooting takedowns constantly but damn when the style works it is beautiful to watch haha

Go check which of Pedro's eyes is blown up, it's THE OTHER EYE. It's not the eye he was "poked" in. His other eye got touched, he took the opportunity to get out because the previous legal strike had compromised him. It was a good choice by Pedro, but it should be TKO or retirement win for Sean.

Is Pedro a bad ass? Yes. Did he win the first round? Probably. Did he quit out of a fight he was not confident he could win when the opportunity presented itself? Absolutely.

UFC 280: Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev - UFC 280 Preview @ascendant.mma

Did a bit of a preview for the UFC 280 card upcoming - I don't think I have ever been this excited for a PPV before. The name value is insane, us Aussies are getting completely ****** with time zones - this must feel like what a UK UFC fan feels most weekends

Prediction Comments

Predictions: 8 of 12 Winners, 5 Perfect, 555 Points   |   Tied for 848th

Abdurakhimov vs. Almeida
Jailton Almeida, TKO, R1
Jailton should never lose this fight 9.999999 out of 10 times he wins all he has to worry about is the right hand that's it. Jailton should just take him down within the first min if not the first 10 seconds, then from there he just ground and pounds he 100% could get the sub but Shamils chin is done so i feel like it would only take a couple of those hammer fists to put him out so pretty easy pick. Jailton by 1st round TKO
