Gaethje is crazy tough, but you can only defend so much with your face before your brain gives up on you.

Edit: And I know that comes off as hypocritical considering how I praised the toughness of Oliveira and Medeiros, but at least they were trying to avoid punches and were using footwork and movement. Gaethje literally stands flat footed in front of people.
