Daley vs. Misaki Wiki
The seventh bout of Strikeforce: Tate vs Rousey featured Kazuo Misaki taking on Paul Daley in a welterweight matchup.
Daley landed a strong low kick to open the fight. Misaki landed a nice punch, caught a kick and shot in for a takedown, putting Daley onto the mat. Daley escaped up to his feet quickly where he promptly ate a push kick to the body. Misaki landed a solid right hand, backing Daley away and then opening up with a nice combination. Daley shot in for a takedown with 45 seconds left in the round and got a few strikes in before the bell.
Daley landed a nice counter left but ate a solid body punch in the process. Daley worked for a takedown unsuccessfully and the fighters circled in the center of the cage. Daley landed a takedown midway through the round. Daley took the back and almost had the hooks in when Misaki slipped out and gained top position in Daley's guard.
The third round saw Daley get another takedown and land a few elbows and punches, openeding up Misaki with a huge cut in the middle of the round. The referee paused the fight to have the cut removed, blood pouring quickly onto the canvas and all over Misaki's side. The doctor reviewed the cut and allowed the bout to continue. The fighters worked hard for superior position with Daley looking for a takedown and Misaki defending it. Misaki was the aggressor standing in a close fight that went to the judges.
The judges scored the bout 30-27 Misaki, 29-28 Daley, and 29-28 Misaki, the winner via split decision.
Speaking to Mauro Ranallo in the post-fight interview, Misaki commented in Japanese through his translator, "I would like to apologize that I couldn't go 100% in my performance, it was the first time I cut weight to 170 pounds... I believe the decision is a little disappointing and for Paul Daley the same, I'd like to finish the fight... I believe we all remember last year March 11th the large earthquake, and I'd like to send my message back to Japan for everyone who is watching my fight."
