Conor McGregor won 1 fight in the last 4 years...

...against a guy who's 38 and on a 5 fight losing streak.

I'm sorry, but while I agree Moutinho might be a can (but a very brave can let's give him his due here), he isn't "fed" to O'Malley by the UFC at all.

As you probably know, he's stepping in on very short notice to save the fight, because Louis Smolka had staph infection.
Ricky Simon, who is a very decent fighter, was seriously considered by the UFC, but couldn't make weight in time, so they had to go with Moutinho to save the fight.

So, maybe you're thinking Louis Smolka is also a can, but I would strongly disagree.

He isn't exactly a world beater, but I think he's the appropriate level of competition O'Malley should fight right now : just outside the top 15 talents where the likes of Marlon Vera are still breaking his legs, but a little upgrade compared to the depressing ghosts of action fighters like Almeida or Wineland...

Smolka is inconsistent as hell, but he's long and tall, and when he's on a good day he's very talented and could have tested O'Malley in a fun little war, I was really looking for this fight and I hope it's resheduled soon after this.

Have a good day !

Burns vs. Thompson
Stephen Thompson, TKO, R3
Wonderboy has to fight very careful, he can't afford to get backed up and trapped against the cage which can happen to him because Burns cracks hard. Thompson needs to keep his distance and fight off that side kick and counter straight right. If Thompson can land his counter shots I think he'll take over, Burn's doesn't react to shots very well. Burns will start fast as he always does, he should go out there and kick and look for big hooks because you can catch Thompson with big looping punches. However I think Thompson will do a good job at keeping his distance with the kicks and counters and get the finish later on

@JohnVolcan

Actually, Ricky Simon could have made weight in time.

Sean O'Malley explicitly stated that Dana White wanted that matchup the least out of all the possible options.
So no, it was not seriously considered by the UFC, because they knew Ricky Simon could outwrestle their lad and derail the hype train oncemore.

Those who are big on Dricus will be disappointed Saturday. Giles is a sniper and will calculate at a much higher level than Dricus, I'm convinced he'll almost make it look easy

I'm assuming you don't know that Ricky Simon said he could take the O'Malley fight, but the fight HAD TO BE  at 145 lbs.
You can read it everywhere on MMa websites.

So call it as you want, but Ricky Simon  couldn't or wouldn't do it at 135 lbs.

I'm just saying there wasn't many options other than very late replacement Moutinho, who is indeed a (brave) can.
Smolka was the original choice of opponent by the UFC, and yeah he's inconsistent, but a very decent fighter. The UFC isn't exactly throwing O'Malley to the wolves, but they aren't "feeding him cans".

Tuivasa vs. Hardy
Greg Hardy, TKO, R1
Another upset I can see happening. Hardy's athleticism, motivation from previous embarrassing loss, great training camp could get him this win. Tai gets hit, and he's not a wrestler. Hardy struggles when he's being wrestled. I see this match being a power of hands and Hardy taking it, not counting Tai out, I'm about 80/20 though.

Conor didn’t look that great in the press conference imo, gave an emotional response to a guy in a pink suit and seemed almost like a parody of his former self.

@feedingabus Yeah the whole thing felt like he was just recycling his old lines but with no context so it sounded forced. Dustin called him out on it, said he used to be better at this kinda stuff, I agree.

Poirier vs. McGregor III
Dustin Poirier, TKO, R3
I'm expecting a lot of adjustments out of Conor, I expect he's gonna use some more kicks, attack the calf of Dustin's. Leg kicks are massive for either guy, even if Conor is in that karate stance he still doesn't check them. Dustin will absolutely go for them again but he can't be too predictable, he needs to mix everything up. Dustin did so well with the lead hook in the 2nd fight, he landed it a lot. Conor again had some great moments, he looked stronger in the clinch exchanges and his boxing combinations were quick and sharp, I would like Conor to use his boxing combinations in his karate stance so that he's able to stay away from the calf kicks and the counter hooks from Dustin. I see Dustin going in there to look for more takedowns and a big thing from the last fight is that Dustin was able to take Conor's shots, if he can make it out of round 1 and 2 he can finish this fight. Conor tends to slow down a bit, we've seen this in every fight he's in that goes past round 2 and he just doesn't like adversity. That's why I'm going with Dustin again, I just don't know how good Conor is anymore, he's not the same as what he was in 2015/2016. Think Dustin can out last Conor and get the TKO again
