Jackson vs. Arona Wiki Update Wiki

After losing the first bout of his career with Pride FC, Quinton Jackson quickly reeled off a TKO victory over Ikuhisa Minowa before taking on talented Brazilian light heavyweight Ricardo Arona in June of 2004. Near the end of the first round, Jackson pulled off the greatest slam in MMA history by knocking Arona out cold to escape from a Triangle Choke.

“I really can’t tell who’s going to win this fight,” Rutten said, “but Quinton better keep it on his feet and Arona should try to take it to the ground.” Arona entered the ring first, followed by Jackson. Ranallo: “He [Jackson] is the most charismatic man in the sport today and tonight he has his eyes on the number one contender’s spot.” Somewhat surprisingly, Jackson decided to take the fight to the ground, working from inside a dangerous guard for the majority of the round before slamming his way out of an Arona Triangle Choke attempt and into the winner’s circle with the knockout at the 7:32 mark.

Following his big win over Arona, Jackson became the top contender to Wanderlei Silva’s middleweight belt, but when the rematch finally occurred at Pride 28 later that year, Jackson again met with failure, as Silva finished him in the second round.
