@DrChaotic, so why is Makhachev's only chance to win by decision?  Do you not believe in his skillset at all?

Oliveira has been finished 7 times already in his UFC career which includes both knockout and submission losses. Oliveira has only gone to decision 3 times in his entire UFC career of almost 30 fights and none of those 3 decisions were 5 round fights.

I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't even give Makhachev a chance to win by a finish.  I mean the guy has won his last 4 fights in a row with finishes. Now he is fighting someone who has a "kill or be killed" type of fighting style over 5 rounds.

I understand how utterly preposterous it seems to write Charles off in this fight, but I genuinely believe he has almost no chance to win this fight. Charles will not be able to stop the takedown and unless Islam makes a mistake he has not made in a decade of competition or training Charles will be controlled and will lose this fight 99/100 times.

BUT. There is no question the Charles who got pounded out and completely big brothered by Felder is not the same Charles who we're seeing today - he's doing something special. I don't know what he did, he's done hyperbolic time chamber next level ****, he's demolished fighters on paper he should not have dismantled the way he did. I think there's reasons for that and have inflated the perception of his skill level but it's speculation, he might just be that special.

I want him to be that special, if he does submit Islam - for me this will be the most important, defining, iconic mma moment of the decade. The culmination of the journey from the previous decade to not just beating but submitting Khabib's protégé, the heir to the Nurmagomedov era of dominance, the fighter who has never tapped in competition or sparring. It would be a generational moment if Charles does something that special.

If that happens, inspirational would not be sufficient description for the magnitude of Charles story arc. It won't happen, but good god it would be magical if it does.

@el222, was it Makhachev's fault that he was given those exact opponents?  He was supposed to fight Beneil Dariush instead of Bobby Green and he was supposed to fight Rafael dos Anjos instead of Dan Hooker.  Thiago Moises was on a 3 fight win streak so he was going to get a top level opponent regardless which happened to be Islam.  All the other guys such as Poirier, Gaethje, Chandler and even Ferguson didn't want anything to do with Islam because it was a lose/lose situation to agree to fight him.

I like how Yan and Sterling are respectful to each other  after the unfortanate ending of the first fight, It's cool as i'm a fan of both guy, Yan is one of the most entertaining and high skilled guys on the roster, Sterling become endering because he didn't derseve the **** he cop from the fans and he seems like a good bloke,

I hope they make a trilogy after this even if it techically 2-0 Sterling, Because Yan was winning before a brain fart DQ,

no, it wasn't his fault, but it doesn't change the fact that his level of competition has been horrid (for a title challenger)

@depmode And Makhachev has fought nobody but bums. He’s not finishing Oliveira. Oliveira can KO him, sub him, and you’re only assuming he won’t win by decision because he’s that good of a finisher. You’re assuming he has bad cardio because of his greatness. Islam could theoretically submit him, but I severely doubt he’s going too. As for KO that’s just not gonna happen. Charles has more paths to victory, he has less pressure on him, and he’s fought killers already. Makhachev is going from fighting an unranked nobody to the champion of the ******* world. I will NEVER pick someone like that to win

Prediction Comments

Predictions: 7 of 12 Winners, 3 Perfect, 440 Points   |   Tied for 2714th

Länsberg vs. Rosa
Karol Rosa, DEC
Not too chuffed with this one, both are kind of just unimpressive specifically Lina Lansberg, I am actually okay with Rosa, she isn't bad just not too great, she did lose her last fight getting outgrinded by Sarah McMann, but personally I don't think Lina has the ability to do that whatsoever, I believe Karol has more tools, she's younger alot more primed I'd say. Karol Rosa Decision, 30-27 with maybe one potential round going in the favour of Lina, purely because it's womens MMA.

Abdurakhimov vs. Almeida
Jailton Almeida, SUB, R1
I think the obvious pick here is Jailton, I think he's a huge prospect. Great Power, Speed, Athleticism, excellent technical ability in the grappling, I like how he goes for a lot of good ground and pound, and chases submissions. Shamil I feel his best days are just far behind, he's 41 years of age, chinned in his last 3, don't see how it goes well for him. I'm saying Jailton by 1st round finish, I believe either a KO, or gnp TKO are possible as well as submission, I will probably learn Jailton cracking him sending him to the canvas, works a bit on the ground and finds the rear naked choke on a concussed, old, dunnout Shamil Abdurakhimov.

Nishikawa vs. Mustafaev
Magomed Mustafaev, DEC
Looking at it in first glance my pick Mustafaev, underrated, excellent striker, he's been off for a long time yes, he is older now yes, nut I still believe his technical ability will shine, aswell as experience. Yamato is taking this fight on short notice and just fought recently, which is class to see, and he's very young, but I don't know much about him, but what I do know, is a lot of Asian fighters have great records on the regional, they are given mostly cans, so I am going to go with Magomed purely of experience, UFC experience that is, plus he's taller, probably longer and Yamato weighing in at 153 leading me to believe he is not the biggest 155er. Mustafaev, Decision, hoping it's fun.

They're gonna say Kevin Lee even though he could do nothing on top and was just fighting off submissions the whole before getting submitted like 5 seconds into the 3rd. Everything else is old as hell, therefore irrelevant

Nobody is riding on Dagestani nuts man, we are just trying to have an intelligent conversation on an outcome of a highly anticipated fight which is what this public forum was created for.

By the way, I am a huge Oliveira fan and I made a lot of money off him in his last 3 fights.  I'll give you props if Oliveira wins in spectacular fashion.  It's a win/win anyway because if Oliveira finishes Makhachev, then there is no doubt that Khabib will return and that will be the biggest LW fight of all time.

Then I'll discredit 10 of 11 of Oliveiras winstreak

Only guy he beat that is better than islams wins is Dustin Poirier
