Continuing the trend of following up Urijah Faber-headlined fight cards with those featuring Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit, WEC 35 featured Condit’s title defense over Hiromitsu Miura, which was one of the best fights of the year. In other action, Steve Cantwell took the Light Heavyweight Championship by becoming the first fighter to defeat Brian Stann, while Jamie Varner defended his Lightweight Championship against Marcus Hicks. Cantwell and Stann would later fight two more contests against one another, one each in the WEC and the UFC.
