EliteXC Wiki
In one of the most significant MMA events in history, EliteXC: Primetime was the first MMA event to be broadcast on a major American television network, as the main card aired live on CBS. In featured action, EliteXC stars such as Brett Rogers, Gina Carano, and Robbie Lawler all shined, but it was Kimbo Slice who attracted a record number of viewers to the event.
Unfortunately, while Slice was victorious over James Thompson in the main event, the fact that he was headlining the first MMA card on network television angered some hardcore MMA fans who did not consider Kimbo to be a “real” mixed martial artist. Their frustration was only stoked by the main event, which featured Thompson landing extensive unanswered ground-and-pound without earning a stoppage, followed by Slice rallying for a stoppage of his own before Thompson ever hit the canvas.
