Edwards made his second title defense against Colby Covington at UFC 296. He dominated Covington for five rounds winning a unanimous decision.

   Muhammad fought a rematch with Vicente Luque at UFC on ESPN 34. After five rounds he won the fight by unanimous decision. Muhammad returned at UFC 280 against Sean Brady. He stopped Brady by TKO in the second round. He co-headlined UFC 288 against Gilbert Burns. He won the fight by unanimous decision after five rounds.

They instead fought at UFC 285. Rakhmonov submitted Neal in the third round with a rear-naked choke. He was set to welcome Kelvin Gastelum back to the welterweight division, however, the bout fell through. He instead fought at UFC 296 against Stephen Thompson. He submitted Thompson with a rear-naked choke.

He was set to return against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 292, however, he withdrew from the bout. They instead fought at UFC 298. He lost the fight by split decision.

He was set to take on Ian Machado Garry next at UFC 296, however, Garry withdrew due to illness. Luque was then instead set to fight Sean Brady, however, this bout also fell through. He instead fought Joaquin Buckley at UFC on ESPN 54. He lost to Buckley by TKO in the second round.

    Brady faced Mike Chiesa at UFN 198. He won the fight by unanimous decision. Brady faced Belal Muhammad at UFC 280. He lost to Muhammad by TKO in the second round. Brady was set to face Michel Pereira, however, he withdrew due to groin injury. He was set to return at UFC 290 against Jack Della Maddalena, however, he withdrew due to an infection. Brady instead welcomed Kelvin Gastelum back to the welterweight division at UFC on ESPN 52. He dominated Gastelum en route to a third round kimura submission finish. Brady was set to face Vicente Luque next, however, he withdrew from the bout.

He won the back-and-forth fight by TKO in the fourth round due to a corner stoppage. Thompson was set to face Michel Pereira at UFC 289, however, the bout was cancelled. They were rescheduled for UFC 291, however, Pereira missed weight and the bout was cancelled. Thompson instead faced Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 296. He was submitted for the first time in his career with a rear-naked choke.
