Yeah I switched my pick from Aldo to Merab after seeing that weight cut, had it as a coin toss before anyway so that's enough to just ever so slightly tip me toward Merab.
I might still bet Aldo if the line keeps moving, doesn't look like it will move that much though.

He’s super rich; I’m pretty sure he owns a car dealership so fighting isn’t his main focus. Plus I think he’s injured as well. Real shame cuz he’s not a bad fighter at all

I'm honestly starting to lean towards Loosa tbh b/c of the reach, level of competition, and the fact that AJ Fletcher has only fought for about 3 years now. I also wouldn't take too much from the Aldo weight cut, but the Santos weight cut looked brutal and he's 42, so he might gas in about a minute thirty tbh

Regarding Romanov, he has cut a lot of weight since his debut and his cardio is probably 10x better than it was when he first got into the UFC. I think the only thing 3 things that are question marks are will he be as dominant on the ground being about 10/15 pounds lighter than most of his competition, is his boxing good enough if he faces dudes he struggles to keep on the ground, and will his chin be able to take shots since he probably could make it to 205 if he killed himself to do it

Nothing to overthink, will Merab grind down Aldo or will Aldo once again remind everyone of who he is? I would caution anyone that thinks this is a slam-dunk pick in either direction. Then they should think some more and not underthink it.
Merab's greatest weapon is his pace and pressure not necesarilly takedowns. He has a ton of them partly because his ground control isn't great but partly because he doesn't mind letting people back up so he can slam them again and break them physically and mentally.
I think he could exert a ton of pressure just in clinch work even if he doesn't get a single takedown. Aldo is for sure his biggest test by far though.

It’s awesome Romanov actually made the effort to slim down. So many guys with that physique just make do being strong and flabby. Seems like he’s focused and ready to make a push. The Espino fight seemed like a wake up call. Espino ate his best shot and was winning the grappling and Romanov was fading.

I think Romanov is a gigantic problem in the division if he can keep up the pace for 5 rounds. We still have to see how good his hands are compared to the top heavyweights and if he can eat a few shots.
