Yeah I suppose that makes sense but I’m with you on viera vs turman. Especially when viera has been so outspoken about how he gets so nervous about fighting it really makes you think how he’s gonna perform. Opening fight on a ppv seems like a recipe for disaster imo

Especially following jourdain/topuria. The fans are probably gonna boo him if he doesn’t do anything especially after a banger like that

Can someone give some clarification over the whole interim title situation? It was my understanding Ngannou said he wanted to spend some time in Cameroon after winning. Then the beef with Dana and Ngannou's management, then we get the Gane/Lewis fight. From my point of view kinda disrespectful to Francis, seemed the UFC wasn't willing to slow down the money machine to allow this man to spend time away for the summer. Should he have made a title defense already?

I think it was more 265 needed a main event and no one was available so they slapped the interim title to that fight. I think it was supposed to be Lewis/Ngannou but there was the management dispute between Dana and Francis’s management. Mostly it’s because Dana hates Francis’s manager for some reason. But yes, it really should have been Lewis/Ngannou 2

Thank you, makes sense. You mostly here Dana's side of the story and it just sounds like Francis was done dirty either through his incompetent management or Dana just not backing down.

i do have a bet on rodolfo but im starting to have some doubt. the ufc clearly wants this guy to succeed, hes had the easiest 3 wins in the ufc. but he does have a weird mental issues, and being on a ppv main card def scares me. and idk how wellington turman earned this spot, if he lost his last fight he would be cut from the ufc

@ntrs yeah I feel bad for francis cuz he’s been made out to be a bad guy but in reality he got ****** because of his managements beef with Dana

@jrreynolds yeah I honestly wouldn’t have bet on him just because of his card placement lol. He is better than turman in every category except for cardio but the mental issues and cardio are always going to be detrimental to him. Also when you factor in that this is his first fight in front of a crowd since 2019, it might play a role. Even if he doesn’t lose I’m worried the fight is just gonna be painfully boring because he doesn’t trust his abilities and gas tank enough to try and win the fight

also he got really embarrased after the anthony hernandez fight, in the stoltzfusz fight he didnt go for it that much. he might be scared of having another embarassing moment in front of a big crowd, so he might fight safe

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. But fighting safe vs fighting smart is different. He’s got a really good jab but that’s about it in terms of striking. He can’t just rely on his jab to win him points on the scorecards he’s going to either need to mix up his striking or try to take him down but not actively hunt a finish if he’s worried about his gas tank. Turman being reversed three times by Karl Roberson and out muscled by Bruno Silva makes me pretty confident that he stands basically 0 chance against vieras bjj. But I’m just worried how much he’s gonna rely on that because of his gas tank. I feel like if he just lets turman take him down or doesn’t rush things he should be able to just wet blanket until he gets a sub. Turman doesn’t strike me as someone with even decent fight iq (I think the sam alvey fight more than proved that) so I feel like he’s gonna try and being the fight to the ground

I’m going viera btw but a lot less confident in him then I was before

I’m sure they’ve got an internal logic to the bout order. When they put early prelims, prelims, and main card on three different networks, they’ve probably got to juice each one up by putting a good fight lower on the card. That fight on the prelims that makes us all ask “why isn’t this on the PPV?” is because that’s ESPN Go’s main event, essentially.

Fun fact: debutants went 31-57 last year. We have 8 people making their debuts this card. Just some food for thought. Implies all debutants have about a 35% chance of winning (obviously this is far from accurate especially when some fights are debutant be debutant but still shows that the short notice guys don’t have that much of a chance statistically

How is Saimon Oliveira's reach listed as 67" on Tap but the contender series listed him at 72"? Did he get arm implants or something? Obviously it's fine to lie about an inch or two but 5" is just false advertising.

It’s still listed at 72” on espn so who knows what it’s actually at. Kinda like Tap saying azamat murzakanov is 35 but espn and ufc have him as 32 or how espn and ufc count thug nastys TUF loss as a real loss
