Matthew Kenneth Frevola was born in Hungtington, New York and grew up on Long Island. Frevola was a multi-sport athlete in high school and was a member of the Harborfields High School wrestling team. Frevola also begaining training in jiu jitsu during this time after being caught in a guillotine choke while horsing around with a friend. He trained extensively in jiu-jitsu at Gracie Tampa South during college and is a brown belt in that discipline. Frevola graduated from the University of Tampa with a degree in Criminology and is a Engineer Officer in the United States Army Reserve.

After an 8-0 run through amateur mma, Frevola made his pro debut at WSOF 15: Branch vs. Okami, winning via triangle armbar. A 5-0 start to his pro career earned Frevola an appearance on Dana White's Contender Series Season 1. He defeated Luke Flores via arm-triangle choke. Frevola made his UFC debut on UFC Fight Night: Stephens vs. Choi, where he lost via KO to Polo Reyes. Frevola is 3-3-1 in the promotion, with decision victories over Jalin Turner (UFC 236) and Luis Pena (UFC Fight Night: Joanna vs. Waterson) and a TKO victory over Gennaro Valdez (UFC 270).
