I'm worried about Pettis. Desperately needs a new gym if Ruke Doofus is telling him he's a contender at 170. Pettis wasn't even a contender at 145.
Sometimes you gotta know when to look your fighter in the eye & tell them the truth. Anthony, you're just about done. You're not a top contender anymore, in ANY weight-class. You will NEVER win a belt again, EVER. Its not going to happen. These young savages will murder your whole family and you can't stop them. You can't.
Pettis new place is a 155 gatekeeper. You struggled with Jim Miller for christs sake. You belong fighting decent guys, not the elite. Guys like Trinaldo, OAM, Yancy...thats where you're at right now Anthony, not fighting Wonderboys.

I would agree with you but after seeing Pettis go toe to toe with Ferguson it makes me think he’s still got the fire In Him to make a run. It’s a shame that injuries have stopped a lot of his fights. He’s always been competitive with the top guys but didn’t quite seal the deal. His win over Chiesa (who is near elite) really made me think he’s got a shot at the top guys. But I don’t know if 170 is smart for him

If you can make 145 you probably should not be fighting at 170. Not against a true welterweight. Pretty big feather in his cap if he wins, but he probably won't.

Pettis at 170? **** no. Whover had this idea needs to be smashed over the head with a shovel and buried in the woods.Time for new management. I just ran through the top 5 WW's in my head and he doesn't stand a chance of beating any of them. Woodley?Nope. Covington? Nope. RDA? I strongly doubt it. Thompson? Probably gonna KO him. Outside of that you've got Ponzi who would smash him to pieces, Lawler, Maia, Masvidal, Cerrone. Nelson...not a single fighter in that list I'd pick him against. He might beat Cheisa again, on a good night cerrone and possibly Maia but overall as a career move this is suicide.

@fish I'd say the same thing about Pettis at lightweight too. He's completely out gunned by the top five in either division. The writing is on the wall. I don't see the Pettis brothers in the ufc in 2020.

Did Pettis or Duke or anyone say he was moving to WW full time? Because all I heard was Thompson suggested it would be a good fight and Pettis agreed and accepted. I'm fully expecting Pettis to take mostly LW fights and would be shocked if he agreed to fight one of the wrestling decisionators at WW.

Pettis is the one who called him out first through an IG post. They are only interested in this matchup not moving up completely.

"No i'm not interested in working at that place, I just went for an interview"
I can't ignore common-sense. Pettis wouldn't have taken this fight if he wasn't a least a little intrigued at the possibility of fighting at 170. Ever since USADA, Showtime been rocking' the dad bod.

Why would he be interested to fight for the belt in a division where two of his teammates are either champion or contenders. He will never fight Woodley or Askren.. Their plan at Roufusport is Woodley defends against Usman and Colby and then moves up to middleweight and opens up the belt for Askren. Its not hard to figure out. Duke and Pettis asked for this fight because they think they have Wonderboy's number in that gym. This is strictly a fight for the fans their plan is to beat him and move back down to lightweight.

So you're saying that Pettis took a match-up vs the #4 guy in the Welterweight division out of confidence and doesn't plan on staying if he wins?
Right..

It's too big of a jump up in weight. Not a good idea. Didn't know he was on the same team as Woodley though.
I could see woodley getting In his ear saying thompson Is an easy fight since he beat him twice.
Strange move still. Normally not something u do if u thought u had a chance to make a title run in your own division. Maybe he already knows his time is ending and he's just trying to cash in on the biggest money fights he can get before its over.

So apparently, Duke Rufus trained a guy that beat Thompson in a karate match or something?
So maybe he knows something we don't as far as how these two will match up, but to me this seems like a terrible idea for Pettis.

@Alias. He’s certainly more qualified than my surly full on baked armchairfighting ass self. Maybe he thinks it will be a lot of touch point fighting where Pettis’ spreed will win it..idk. That said, I’m not putting any $ on Pettis nor will I even consider him in fantasy. Haha

Pettis in his recent MMA Junkie interview admitting the obvious, he's late in his career and is getting lazier by the day. Cutting ANY weight is becoming too much and Win over the #4th ranked Welterweight would put him right in line for more big fights in the division...
