Figured I'd start up a thread considering that we should be getting tons of new fights, signings, etc in the next few weeks. Also, writing for mmasucka.com has it's perks. I got confirmation today I will receive all of Rizin's press releases, so that should be helpful!

Can't wait for this promotion to get going.

He has a pretty solid Judo background so he might have more potential than most Sumotori. The injuries definitely leave questions but Sumo is rough on the body with competitions being much more frequent than MMA not to mention most of the competitors are over 300 lbs and slamming into each other so maybe a few years away is all he needed.

Well I guess it's good to know Sakakibara has little interest in creating a legitimate fight organization and is ready to let his freak flag fly.

What's illegitimate about a few freakshows? PRIDE had them, DREAM had them, even UFC has them. He's signing legitimate prospects as well, has one of the greatest if not greatest fighter of all time, and champions from other promotions. Are TV deals, possible drug testing, signing new talent, working with the police and government, working with a national wrestling governing body, building relationships and bonds with other orgs, etc things illegitimate orgs do? Guess I'm not surprised at this though.

KSW head already said he won't send champs or his best guys so I wouldn't count on anyone on that list. Then again he also said the loser of Narkun/Reljic might enter the tournament so who knows. I doubt Ishii gets away from IGF and I think he's currently injured. King Kaz retired so idk if he would return.

I think we will almost certainly see some Russians, Fedor's whole story lately has been building up relations for Russian fighters to get big fights.

Maike Linhares has been speculated from Jungle Fight but no real solid evidence other than Wallid saying it's a young stud he's sending.

TK has been rumored. I'm sure they well also go after Japanese pro wrestlers though idk who they can get. NJPW more than likely won't lend anyone big and they probably only let Saku do it since he isn't really relevant for NJPW. Meltzer mentioned Go Shiozaki as being contacted by RIZIN which is probably one of the more popular non-NJPW guys. He doesn't have any martial arts experience as far as I know though. Most of the legit catch/amateur wrestlers are old and in NJPW. Kushida went 6-0-2 in ZST and won a tournament a decade ago, and Ibushi was supposed to debut in K-1 way back and has karate credentials but again both are in NJPW. Doubt they give up Shibata either and next to 0 chance they lend Shinsuke so idk what they can get as far as legit martial artists in pro wrestling.

I know Andy Souwer has been rumored as well, I know he mentioned he wants to do MMA and I expect them to go after some kickboxers.

@Live2Wrestle

I think we will almost certainly see some Russians, Fedor's whole story lately has been building up relations for Russian fighters to get big fights.

But a lot of the big name Russian/Eastern European fighters that Sakakibara would want like are with M-1 and Vadim said he won't allow any of them to fight for Sakakibara (last time I checked. He could have changed his tune by now).  I could see Goltsov getting a deal with Sakakibara, as well as Vasilevsky and Pavlovich and Grishin.  But, outside of working some contract magic, how is Fedor and Sakakibara going to get the fighters like Kharitonov and Tybura to fight for RIZIN when Vadim said no?

I know Andy Souwer has been rumored as well, I know he mentioned he wants to do MMA and I expect them to go after some kickboxers.

Do you think that Sakakibara could make a play for the likes of Verhoeven and van Roosmalen?  Also, what about some of the fighters from K-1 like Fairtex, Grigorian, Watanabe, HIROYA, and Kimura?

TK has been rumored.

Interesting.  Would have him matched up against the likes of Funaki?

I'm sure they well also go after Japanese pro wrestlers though idk who they can get. NJPW more than likely won't lend anyone big and they probably only let Saku do it since he isn't really relevant for NJPW. Meltzer mentioned Go Shiozaki as being contacted by RIZIN which is probably one of the more popular non-NJPW guys. He doesn't have any martial arts experience as far as I know though. Doubt they give up Shibata either and next to 0 chance they lend Shinsuke so idk what they can get as far as legit martial artists in pro wrestling.

What about the likes of Minoru Suzuki, Kazuyuki Fujita, Hikaru Sato, Hajime Ohara, and Shelton Benjamin?

Suzuki isn't doing much for NJPW (and I'm sure NOAH wouldn't be as restrictive of talent fighting as NJPW), and he has fought MMA in the past.  Fujita fought Ishii two years ago, and I'm sure he could still put up a decent fight.  Sato has had some experience in MMA in the past and fought the likes of Marquardt, Chonan, Okami, and ***uda.  Ohara has a professional record of 11-3.  And while Benjamin has never fought MMA, he was a part of the Minnesota Golden Gopher Collegiate Wrestling team, and had a record 36-6 during his run in the NCAA.

I'm not surprised that Palhares would jump ship to RIZIN.  After what happened with his fight with Shields, I'd be surprised if any American Athletic Commission would allow him to fight stateside again.

Looks like Sakakibara has met up with ex Pride and UFC vet Murilo Bustamante:

NOBUYUKI SAKAKIBARA ‏@nobu_sakakibara 6m6 minutes ago

今回のブラジル訪問の最後は、ブラジリアン トップチームのムリーロ・ブスタマンチとの10年振りの再会でした。懐かしいです。彼の推薦する若手の選手とも会うことができました!#rizinff #mmajp #travelling

I guess RIZIN is going to sign some of the young prospects from Brazilian Top Team.  How fitting, considering how PRIDE FC served as the battleground for the rivalry between BTT and Chute Boxe.

Anyone know who the two people pictured with Bustamante and Sakakibara are?
