Figured I'd start up a thread considering that we should be getting tons of new fights, signings, etc in the next few weeks. Also, writing for mmasucka.com has it's perks. I got confirmation today I will receive all of Rizin's press releases, so that should be helpful!

Can't wait for this promotion to get going.

  • -Co-promotion with KSW, BAMMA, Bellator, Jungle Fights, among others.
  • -Will take place in a ring with Pride rules. They also may allow elbows.

rappinpapsoda It sounds like they're aiming for 2-3 events a year. So I hope they can atleast consistently bring that.

@rappinpapsoda  It could potentially end up becoming another one off if the promotion is unsuccessful with its first event.  However, I highly doubt that this would be just a one off, considering the amount of investment gone into this; as well as that, Sakakibara has stated that his goal with this whole thing was to help revive interest in Japanese MMA with an organization that would fill the void Pride FC (as well as HERO'S and DREAM to a lesser extent) left behind.

@MikeLovesTacos  Is that just the schedule RIZIN has to start off with until the promotion starts gaining more popularity; or is that going to be their permanent schedule year round, regardless of growth?

Winner of Jungle Fight's 220 lbs title next weekend will be heading there NYE per Wallid. Yuki Motoya is also pretty much a given at this point. Rumored that they will be getting a decorated female amateur wrestler but I can't see it being Yoshida (most dominant female athlete ever) or Icho (right behind Yoshida) with the Olympics coming up though. A bunch of stuff I posted in the JMMA thread as well.

Any word on whether or not Jungle Fight BW champ Maike Linhares will be on the card? I think him vs. a battle-tested Japanese name like Hideo Tokoro would be a perfect fit for this type of card.

I just know he's been speculated since Wallid said he will be sending some young stud, didn't give a name though. He would be much more interesting than either of the 220 title challengers though.

Might as well add Randy Couture and DJ.taiki to the "new signings" list alongside with Motoya.  Sakakibara just dropped a major hint through his social media account saying how he wants Couture to have his return fight in Japan; and considering how RIZIN and Bellator have a cross promotional partnership, and how Bellator (I think) has some sort of deal with Couture, I have no doubt in my mind that Couture is going to come out of retirement and potentially fight Fedor at some point in Japan.  As for DJ.taiki, Sakakibara also suggested through social media, after polling fans on who they would want to see in RIZIN (in which Hata was the #1 response from fans), that he'd be interested in signing the former DEEP Bantamweight champion to RIZIN.

@MikeLovesTacos  I would be doing the Daniel Bryan "YES!" chants all throughout my house the moment they make that fight a reality.  Also, you want to talk about a fight that would draw eyeballs to the television?  Spike TV could be able to beat the numbers of viewers they got to watch Bellator's Shamrock vs Kimbo and Ortiz vs Bonnar combined if Emelianenko vs Couture was the main event on the December 31st fight card.  Sakakibara needs to make this fight, or Wanderlei vs Fedor, happen.

Baruto! Holy ****. I watched sumo wrestling for the first time a few weeks ago waiting for a MMA  event to start and he was awesome on there. It was actually kind of fun to watch.  those fat dudes go flying.

Official statement on Baruto through press release.

Former Sumo wrestler Kaido Hoovelson aka BARUTO signs with RIZIN FIGHTING!

On October 22nd, RIZIN FF executive committee Chairman Nobuyuki
Sakakibara and General Manager Nobuhiko Takada held a press conference
to announce that former Sumo wrestler Kaido Hoovelson aka BARUTO will
be making his MMA debut during the “RIZIN FIGHTING WORLD GRAND-PRIX
      2015 SAITAMA 3 DAYS” event.

“A long awaited man from the Professional Sumo world who has the
potential to be the top fighter has made his decision to participate
for RIZIN. His home country is Estonia, but is a fighter who has the
spirit of a Japanese.” Said Sakakibara, as Takada continued, “He is
still 30 years old. He suffered some injuries in the past, but he’s
healed up and has been training hard. He has outstanding talent with
the potential to lead the future of MMA.” Hoovelson commented “It’s
been 2 years since I stepped away from the Sumo world, but I was given
an opportunity to compete again and that is why I have decided to
fight. I will give it all to become the top fighter with Peter Aerts
and Akira Shoji’s supervision. Please keep an eye out for me.”
