Figured I'd start up a thread considering that we should be getting tons of new fights, signings, etc in the next few weeks. Also, writing for mmasucka.com has it's perks. I got confirmation today I will receive all of Rizin's press releases, so that should be helpful!

Can't wait for this promotion to get going.

It's sounding likely that Takeru will be in, he said he wants to fight NYE after he defended his K-1 belt the other night. Sakakibara also met with him.

Sakakibara was also at the ZST event this morning with Fedor and spoke well of Sakamaki (ZST's new interim Flyweight champ and student of Kazuyuki Miyata) and Kashiwazaki (BW champ who just defeated their FW champ).

It's just a regular heavyweight fight. It opens 12/29 card. And (at least as of right now) it's not part of the tournament.

in the press release put out this morning, this is what they say about the next batch of Grand-Prix entrants.

Following Kosaka’s comment, Sakakibara chairman announced the
additional fighters entering the WORLD GRAND PRIX. Mark Godbeer from
BAMMA, Teodoras Auktuolis from BUSHIDO and Goran Reljic from KSW.
“Each promotion’s representative fighters from our alliance are being
confirmed one by one. Some provide us with their Champions, some
provide us with former Champions. It is interesting to see each
promotion’s take on this event. This will be RIZIN’s kickoff event,
and eventually we would want everybody to want to provide us with
their best fighters. It all depends on how we polish the concept. We
have 3 more fighters to introduce including a Japanese representative,
we will decide this week. These fighters may not be recognized in
Japan, but their performance will make you remember.”

Interesting.  So when do you think Fedor's opponent will get announced and, when it does, who would it be?

The Jaideep and TK rumors have been shot down.  I doubt Kaido Hoovelson is being lined up to fight Fedor. Bringing in Wanderlei is out of the question, as I doubt that Silva could get out of his UFC contract in time to fight Fedor in December.  Mirko Cro Cop is still under contract with the UFC and won't attempt to come out of retirement after he got popped for HGH by WADA.  Scott Coker has said that Kimbo won't be lined up to fight Fedor (thank the gods in Asgard).  And I feel like the potential for Sakakibara to make Fedor vs Couture happen is slim to none, because he would have announced it by now.

It feels like Sakakibara is playing a game of cat and mouse with the MMA media with regards to who Fedor's mystery opponent is going to be.

At this point they shouldn't even announce it

Don't let anyone know until his opponent walks out on NYE.

Have a behind the scenes weigh in.

Anybody who is watching is watching because it's Fedor anyway.

@rappinpapsoda  I highly doubt that.  Live2Wrestle mentioned previously on this thread, I think, that Ishii is still contracted with Inoki and that Ishii is still recovering from an injury.

Honestly, if I were to make a guess on who Sakakibara would be looking for, based upon the prior criteria he has given the media for his search for Fedor's opponent, it would possibly be someone like Rico Verhoeven.

While he has not yet committed full time to MMA, he has trained for an MMA fight and won (granted it was against a 0-1 opponent).  Furthermore, he is 26 years of age, meaning he has a lot of potential to be a big name in the sport.  Not only that, Verhoeven has dominated the world of Heavyweight Kickboxing for a while now and he has stated on the record that he wants to continue doing more MMA fights; as he sees there is nothing left for him to do in Kickboxing.

So, with all that being said, I feel that there is a decent possibility of Sakakibara making a move to sign Verhoeven as an opponent for Fedor.
