UFC 17 Wiki
The term "Redemption" seen in the UFC 17 title referred to Mark Coleman's chance to prove himself after losing his Heavyweight Championship to Maurice Smith at UFC 14. Although he was originally supposed to face Randy Couture, Couture was forced out of the bout due to injury. Coleman, for his part, was knocked out by Lion's Den fighter Pete Williams in one of the most devastating finishes in early UFC history.
In addition to Coleman's fall, UFC 17 marked the promotional debuts of some of the sport's future superstars, including Dan Henderson, Carlos Newton, and “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell. In the main event, Frank Shamrock, who was quickly distinguishing himself as the UFC’s overall best fighter, defended his Middleweight Championship by submitting veteran Jeremy Horn with a kneebar.
