Pride 8 Wiki
Pride 8 was the first Pride event in some time to be headlined by a member of the famous Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu family, as Royler Gracie, often considered the most technical of his generation of Gracies, took on Japanese superstar Kazushi Sakuraba in the main event of the evening. Deep into the second round, the referee stopped the bout and declared Sakuraba the victor after Gracie refused to tap out while trapped in a tight Kimura hold, which likely did significant damage to his shoulder.
After the victory, which was the highest-profile win of his career, Sakuraba was dubbed “The Gracie Hunter” by fans, a nickname he would bear for the remainder of his long and storied professional career.
