Whittaker vs. Costa
Robert Whittaker, DEC
Rob is the just better in every category. Hes fought similar build guys a lot of times now. Costa reminds me of the old chute boxe fighters. Wild, powerful hooks. Strong back leg kicks. Nothing that Rob hasn't seen before. Rob can implement wrestling here if he wants. That will tire Costa out even quicker. But i think he will use his footwork to dance around Costa to a decision win. Costa just doesn't sound like he's fully in this anymore. Whittaker with a bounceback, trademark performance here.

Whittaker vs. Costa
Robert Whittaker, DEC
I do think Whittaker is starting to go downhill, but Costa's only win in 4 and a half years has been over a 37 year old Luke Rockhold. If Bobby Knuckles is half the fighter he was before the DDP KO he should win this pretty comfortably. This fight likely stays on the feet and Whittaker is just the more technical striker. Costa could land and put him out, but I wouldn't bet on it. Whittaker points his way to a unanimous decision victory.

Volkanovski vs. Topuria
Ilia Topuria, DEC
If Volk was in his prime, I'd take him and not think twice about it, but we all know the crazy stat about 35+ year olds in title fights, and I have to take those numbers into account here. We're in for a treat with this fight though. It's going to be EXTREMELY high level. Both of these guys can do it all... throw hands, wrestle, threaten and defend submissions... I think this is going to be one of those razor close fights where no matter who wins someone is going to cry robbery, and an immediate rematch could be made. Taking Topuria in a 48-47 FOTN

Robert Whittaker after a KO loss just gonna knock costa out and not be afraid to strike right? Yup. That’s the script. I see a parlay buster boys. Styles make fights, if Whittaker can’t get Costa out of there, and I don’t have a reason to believe he will. Since he hasn’t finished anyone in a long time, more on a decline than anything. Give me Costa for the upset and the parlay busters. :) if this was a 5 round fight, you can convince me to take Whittaker. But, in a 3 round fight. I think he will lose a Dec. Do to volume.
prediction: Costa by Dec (due to volume)

Five of the six instances where the older fighter won, the older fighter was Alexander Volkanovski.

for anyone, who‘s interested to get some more insights on the effect of age on the winning rates of a fighter, MMA On Point did a Youtube video the other day taking a deep dive on it by analyzing the data of every single UFC fight considering the fighter‘s age. Really recommendable

Fighters age 35+ fighting between flyweight and welterweight are 2-31 in title fights. Volk is 0-1 in title fights since turning 35. That one loss being the head kick loss to Islam.

Volkanovski vs. Topuria
Alexander Volkanovski, DEC
I understand the skepticism with volks age and chin but we’ve never seen someone this skilled reach this age (in the lower weight classes). topuria has great combos and that’s been well documented in the lead up but his defense, specifically to leg kicks, is mediocre at best. I think topuria will have his moments but ultimately get outskilled in a close decision.

Whittaker vs. Costa
Robert Whittaker, DEC
costas power might be the most overrated single attribute in the sport. as long as whittaker’s chin is still there he should coast to a good win

Neal vs. Machado Garry
Ian Machado Garry, TKO, R2
difference in levels. only reason people are picking neal is fan fiction written about gary by sean strickland fans

Hernandez vs. Kopylov
Anthony Hernandez, SUB, R3
if this was on a full camp it’d be a different story but what a ****** fight. arguably the 2 best middleweight prospects right now?

Nakamura vs. Vera
Rinya Nakamura, SUB, R1
favorite prospect in the UFC let’s go hybrid 🇯🇵

Woodburn vs. Elliott
Oban Elliott, DEC
woodburn is just not UFC level

In men's title fights and interim title fights in 2023 fighters 35+ went 2-8. Those 2 wins came at Light Heavyweight (Pereira) and Heavyweight (Jones). At 185 and under they were 0-7. Those fighters who lost were Figueiredo, Emmett, Usman, Pereira, Cejudo, Covington, and Volkanovski.

All those stats point to Volk losing BUT I'm not counting him completely out. He's one of the greats, and when you're as good as he is, sometimes you become an outlier in statistics

Prediction Comments

Predictions: 9 of 12 Winners, 6 Perfect, 640 Points   |   Tied for 961st

Volkanovski vs. Topuria
Alexander Volkanovski, DEC
Very hard fight to pick here honestly just because of how quick Volk was finished recently but I'm still picking him. I think the early rounds will be crazy and Volk will survive them and take over big time in 3,4,5. I wouldn't be shocked if Topuria wins but there's levels and I just don't think anyone in this division is on the level of Volk yet. Topuria is the next champ most likely but it's not his time right now.

Whittaker vs. Costa
Robert Whittaker, DEC
Whittaker is gonna work Costa for 3 rounds and get back on track. He's so much better than Costa it's not even close but if Whittaker isn't durable anymore then Costa could give him problems.

Neal vs. Machado Garry
Ian Machado Garry, DEC
I really want Geoff to win this fight but I'm gonna pick Garry because I think he will stick to the outside with his range and pick Neal apart until he gets frustrated and drops a decision. I'll be rooting for Neal though. I could see Neal closing the distance and finishing Garry though. Let's see.

Dvalishvili vs. Cejudo
Merab Dvalishvili, DEC
Henry will stuff a few but Merab will keep going and Henry won't have an answer for it. Merab is literally a machine and he's gonna retire Triple C.

Hernandez vs. Kopylov
Anthony Hernandez, SUB, R2
Kopylov will probably piece Hernandez up in round 1 but he will survive because he's a dog and then in round 2 he's gonna get Roman down and choke him out. Roman could very well end up winning this fight in a crazy way though.

Lemos vs. Dern
Amanda Lemos, TKO, R3
Why is Dern taking this fight. Lemos is a harder fight than Andrade at this point and if Dern can't get her to the ground this is gonna end badly. Every round starts on the feet and this is a dangerous game for Dern to play especially if she comes in here with a dumb game plan again.

Rogério de Lima vs. Tafa
Justin Tafa, TKO, R1
I was gonna pick de Lima but I'm not because he's gonna close the distance and get one punched by an overhand from Tafa. I can see it coming.

Nakamura vs. Vera
Rinya Nakamura, SUB, R1
He's gonna take Vera down and sub him with ease. Come on lol.

Zhang vs. Ribeiro
Brendson Ribeiro, TKO, R1
One of the hardest fights to call in a long time. I'm gonna take Ribeiro because Zhang got knocked out by a guy that lied about his record and looked like a complete can in the UFC.

Quinlan vs. Barlow
Danny Barlow, TKO, R1
Danny Barlow is gonna starch that cheater in round 1. Barlow is the future because his wrestling is very good, his striking is very good, and he can put it all together with a high fight IQ. I'm not usually high on DWCS debutants but this guy is the real deal.

Woodburn vs. Elliott
Oban Elliott, DEC
Oban will win a hard fought decision. I'm not high on either guy but we have to give Woodburn some credit for taking the Nickal fight.

Lee vs. Maverick
Miranda Maverick, DEC
This fight will most likely play on close. I think Lee is a pretty good fighter but she always gets taken down and I think Maverick is just gonna rinse and repeat with the takedowns. Lee will beat her with the striking though.
