UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Aldo

Now granted, Aldo doesn’t throw the same amount of leg kicks as he used to. But he’s still one of the goats when it comes to leg kicks. In the munhoz fight, it was actually Pedro who was going to the leg kicks, landing 37 to aldos 8. He’s also thrown 14 total leg kicks in his last two fights

That is also a good point. Font has insanely crisp boxing too

The yan fight is probably going to be the best judgement of how Aldo approaches this fight as yan and font have the same boxing foundation 

How I see it , is aldo survived almost all rounds against Yan, who literally crushes everybody. That's a good sign for me , so we'll see. Aldo will go down as one of the greatest of all time. Regardless of a weight class. Just his character and skill set and the fact that he's only 35 just blows my mind. Dude has been around for forever ! Fighting the best of the best. 

I think the best bet to place on that fight is for it to go the distance. I dont see Font finishing Aldo and I can't really see aldo finishing font.

font and Aldo are also eerily similar in striking stats. font is much higher output, but they have identical striking defense (61%) a difference of 2% between their strike accuracy (43% for font 45% for Aldo) and a difference of .02 for strikes absorbed (3.57 for font 3.59 for Aldo)

Super torn on this fight. Both men coming in riding a massive wave of momentum. I think both men have a super clear path to victory which is why it is so difficult to pick a side. 

Font has the best jab in the BW division but generally it is so successful because of his reach advantage. In this fight, the reach differential is minimal and the size of both men are pretty comparable with Aldo obviously dropping from FW. Aldo's boxing has improved tenfold in the last few fights after working with the Brazilian navy, most importantly his hand speed and his defence moving backwards. Font is going to put the jab out, move forward and constantly pressure Aldo which makes me worry for his gastank. 5 rounds + constantly being pressured and having generally fading cardio = a worried bettor (me). 

I think Aldo's head movement is sophisticated enough to be able to slip the jab and counter with the body rips and turn Font's biggest weapon into Jose's advantage. Font is ridiculously durable also and with Aldo not having crazy power, I can see Font going the distance. I would be more confident with Aldo if i knew he was going to use his leg kicks (which would be a HUGE tool here) but he has been so hesitant to consistently throw it recently. If Font is constantly moving forward and is in Jose's face and Jose can't make him respect his power and create a bit of distance, I see Font probably losing 1 and 2 before picking the pace up and putting it on Jose over the last 3 rounds and winning a close, close 47-48 decision. But god it's close and I have switched sides a few times in the lead up to this fight and probably will continue to...

What is Zhalgas's path to victory against Manel Kape?  Wrestling for a decision win?  If he stands and trades most of the fight like he did against Amir Albazi and Raulin Paiva, then he is bound to get knocked out.

I agree. I think font will face less adversity as the fight goes on. 

Wrestling is a path for zhalgas, but kape has an 80% tdd. He’s obviously not going to want to stand with kape either. Kape has questionable iq; this is probably Zhalgas’s best chance at winning. Kape just kind of gave up the third round against pantoja. He has also mentioned he’s not used to fighting without shoes on, like he did in Rizin. I suppose he could also gas out kape if he misses weight again. Kape is a very good fighter tho; probably the best unranked flw on the roster imo

@AyyLmaonnaise, thank you for your analysis.  I really like Manel Kape but I agree with you that sometimes his fight IQ might not be there.  I'm not particularly impressed by Zhalgas's standup.  Logic says that Manel Kape will get the TKO or at least batter him for 3 rounds for a decision win if its just a stand and trade battle.  But things will get mighty interesting if Zhalgas secures a takedown each round and just does some ground and pound.  It's going to be a very interesting fight.  

I will say Hill standup will most likely be better then Crute, Hill standup might be the best in the division, It not crazy to say he boxing is the best in the UFC,The problem is Hill grappling,  In the two fight people tried grappling with him in Darko Stosic and Paul Craig, He got taken down 6 times vs Stosic and Craig pulled guard and submitted him instantly, No shame on the Paul Craig one, People were seriously down player Craig in that fight, Stosic is not a good look tho,

I also think Crute is a better grappler then Stosic and Craig, I don't think it be a fun night wresling vs Crute, And even if Hill has better standup. It not like Crute standup is that far away Hill, Crute could beat Hill kickboxing, you have to take crute for versatile 

Yeah I like Crute to take Hill down and get a sub.  Paul Craig was able to get ahold of the limb easily.

I think Kape might be one of the best flyweight on the roster, I think he has most of the skill, And is obviously a star athlete, I think Kape biggest problem is that he doesn't throw enough, I think activity will make sure his recent fights ain't close, eventhough I thought Kape won the Pantoja and the Nicalou fight, But who care what I think, it what the 3 idiots judging think

I agree. If hill didn’t get taken down 6 times then I would be hammering him against crute. And again it’s not like I don’t think crute can hang on the feet, it’s just that he also has poor striking defense and I really don’t like that against one of the best strikers in the division. I think another very crucial thing to note is hill got taken down 5 times in round three. This was because he slowed down and darko had the better gas tank. Crute has the shortest average fight time in lhw and I think is top 5 for all active fighters so I really wouldn’t worry about gas as this likely ends before the bell is over. Also I think stosic is a better wrestler than people think, he took Kennedy down 4 times and he has a legit 80% tdd. I’ve also seen Kennedy stuff over 10 td attempts in multiple fights before. Pretty sure Craig went 1/16 against him

Duck, I agree I thought kape won both fights as well. Dude is a stud 

Depmode, one thing that also gives me pause is zhalgas resume outside of the ufc is more than enough to have him ranked in the ufc, but he somehow has not been able to replicate that success in the octagon. I still think kape will ko him; maybe in the later rounds
