In one of the most lucrative Strikeforce events in promotional history, Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Le saw former UFC champion and reigning Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Frank Shamrock return to action for the first time that year, taking on former training partner and fellow California star Cung Le in the main event. In one of the best fights of the first half of 2008, Shamrock gamely hung in until the end of the third round, but a broken forearm forced the contest to be stopped, declaring Le the winner and the new Middleweight Champion.
The event drew over 16,000 live spectators. The main card aired live on the Showtime Premium cable television network.
