Mousasi vs. Jardine Wiki Update Wiki

"The Dean of Mean" Keith Jardine stepped in as a late replacement against Gegard Mousasi on Showtime's live televised card. Jardine begins the contest as the more active fighter, throwing out a testing jab along with solid left leg kicks. Mousasi measures him and picks his shots, doing some good work to the body on a series of brief tie-ups. Jardine takes Mousasi to the ground midway through the first but is unable to capitalize. Mousasi lands his first good shots late in the round, and Jardine looks like the late fill-in may have compromised his cardio. Jardine is getting stung, but saves himself late in the round with a takedown that lets him collect himself. An upkick from Mousasi to a downed Jardine stops the action as Jardine breathes heavily and tries to compose himself. Referee Mike Beltran takes a point for the illegal strike, and the fighters resume. Mousasi begins to open up heavily on the tiring Jardine late in the round, but the horn sounds and they will go another.

Heavier exchanges mark the action the early goings of round two. Mousasi is throwing harder, but Jardine looks to have his wind back and is putting up a stiffer defense. As the round reaches its midway point Jardine is beginning to bleed heavily from both eyes. The fight turns gory as Mousasi lands repeatedly to the head of Jardine. A takedown for Jardine comes at the 2:00 mark, but Mousasi stands again after little damage. Jardine again looks tired. Mousasi is countering Jardine to death. A punch-kick combination wobbles The Dean of Mean, but Jardine lands another takedown and it is becoming his saving grace, buying him time each time he is in trouble. Round two sounds, and Jardine's face is a bloody mess.

Mousasi begins the final round trying to immediately end things. He is landing the harder shots but giving up takedowns, and may feel a sense of urgency. Mousasi tattoos Jardine with left-right combos. A takedown by Mousasi followed by a deep topside Guillotine attempt nearly ends it, but Jardine powers out on sheer will. Another takedown follows immediately by Mousasi on the exhausted Jardine. Jardine giving it everything as Mousasi briefly mounts, but is bucked off. The final round ends with Mousasi on top, dropping shots on the bloodied Jardine.

Ringside judges score the bout 29-27 Mousasi, 28-28 Jardine and 28-28 Jardine for a majority draw, owing to the point deduction in round one.
